Should be the defensive lines next year
Let's be real that no look pass from Slafkovsky that passed in front of the net should have earned him a benching or being sat out, but it didn't. But when it comes to Xhekaj there's no room for error. If MSL can't trust Xhekaj how can he trust Slafkovsky.I call bs

I like Montembeault but it's a great transition goalie like was Theodore at the time before the next great one
I still think that a solid 2C will need a sacrifice from the young core group. My guess is that Guhle, being injury-prone and opens himself to devastating hits regularly, is a good candidate for this. I am comfortable with a Hutson/Matheson(re-signed)/Struble/Xhekaj, Carrier/Reinbacher/Mailloux/unsigned RD insurance FA or minor trade. If you can get a fine 2C for Mailloux, go ahead, then switch a LD to RD. I think Florian can possibly replace the toughness of his big brother too, if possible and would hurt less when lost for 5 minutes(15 mins) as a 4th line forward vs a 5-6D, so Arber can become expendable too.
I like Matheson. Yet, you can certainly make a good hockey trade, for a good #2 centre in a package with Mike involved.
YES, he is. He has been since Hutson's 1st NHL game. Arguably long before that. At this point he is addition by subtraction.

The kids are coming but don't have the experience. We need a big top shutdown D man (ie Hedman) and a Top 2C if we want to see Laine's potential 5on5. Don't worry about Arber….it's a toss up between him and Savard. If playoffs are made, we may see big things going on for next season. Keep the faith.
Primeau is gone in a trade this summer
I got absolutely annihilated on reddit last summer when I said we should be trading Matheson while his stock was high because I knew he'd peaked and would start coming down within a year or two. But even I didn't expect him to become such a liability this season. Whether it's the wasted shots on net that go way wide or the regular giveaways or ugly defensive plays, it doesn't matter. He's cooked and we need to take whatever we can get for him this summer, assuming anyone is willing to take such a huge liability for almost $5 million a year.

Has nothing to do with 'not trusting Suzuki can win the faceoff'. They're a team and everyone has their strengths. Dvo is a great faceoff guy, so why not have him snap it back and get off…

Matheson needs to be moved for a long term RD piece or top 2 C. He doesn't have the qualities a team needs in a vet. He's a spaz, the opposite of reliable.
