We need to talk about the recent Florida Panthers and Montreal Canadiens game which saw Niko Mikkola fire a slapshot at the opposing team as teh game was ending. That and more on today’s NHL hockey video.
Typical Panthers move. I once heard their coach, last year I think, say “they can’t call everything”. That’s the way the Panthers play the game, this is a bullshit move by a player INTENTIONALLY TRYING TO INJURE AN OPPONENT AFTER THE GAME IS OVER…
for the people defending this and his actions, saying there's still time on the clock. lol get a clue. pls, stop being a biased fanboy and call the game like you see it. one it's forbidden, two it's RECKLESSS and it's also poor sportsmanship, it's about respecting the opponent. and showing Class. and while this goes on alot, like you pointing out here with grieg, and there's been others. Heisher more recent, who put the puck in empty net after a horn had gone. Tkachuk who then took exception… and caused a little melee after. and i have no problem with it. the way i see it, you wouldn't want that done to you and your team. and yeah while it may seem harmless, everyone get frustrated, you're in heat of the moment. things happen.
but this is has always been a unwritten rule in hockey… YOU DO NOT SHOOT THE PUCK AFTER WHISTLE. not just the NHL, Hockey in general. the play is haulted, you have unsuspecting players around. Goaltender probably not alert. well the play is dead, so why would you. lol like this stuff is such bushleague garbage. that has no place in hockey.
but in this case this isn't just shooting a puck after a stoppage, in frustration. he isn't attempt to put the puck on net, or intend to score. his team is down 4-2, the game is out of reach lol. so dont come here and give me that shit. he knew what he was doing the moment he had the puck with 9 10 seconds left…
shocking that a panther did some dirty or unsportsmanlike. truly shocking. is it even possible that the universe would have allowed marchand to go to any other team?
I remember a Hab (Gallagher or PK? I forget) in the dying seconds of a playoff game they were losing took a slap shot at an actual human(Ottawa Sens I think)

So I guess everyone is just ignoring the fact that you're supposed to play till the whistle. As though Montreal didn't do a similar thing against Tampa when the ref didn't blow a play dead after Montembault made a save and Tampa assumed there was going to be a whistle so they stopped playing and Montreal put it in while the Tampa players were casually skating around assuming the play was dead even though there was no whistle.
I disagree with the outrage on this one. Players shoot at the net when the time is about to run out all the time regardless of the score if nothing else because they’re frustrated. He doesn’t aim this at any players or the bench he aims at the goal this is hockey you play to the whistle if any Habs players were hit by that puck it would have been all their fault.
