There was an āaltercationā with Torts after he benched him in Toronto. Obviously, said altercation was bad enough to warrant a benching from the team, and a timely final-straw-releasing of Torts. You wanna try to big guy the coach? You get benched. Pretty simple people.
The questions were all reasonable today, and his answers were (as usual) thoughtful. Some commenters online are making the mistake of thinking because a player is mild-mannered, at least in front of the camera, that they aren't incredibly expressive or deeply intelligent in their private life. It's a mistake to assume that.
Cam has always come off to me as someone who tries to have a thoughtful approach to his game, and to the way he responds to press questions.
He almost always seems pretty calm, as well, so if he did "flip out" at Torts it was likely building for a long time and not based on one thing. Frankly, I don't blame him.
I know all the Torts loyalists won't see it this way — but perhaps they should do some soul searching and ask themselves if it's ever wise in life to have unquestioned loyalty to any one person.
There are elements of Torts that make him a good coach, but some of those same things also blind him to certain truths about today's NHL — his headstrong nature, I mean. Also, he was not at all the right fit for what we are trying to build here — end of story.
Again, well done Cam. Finally, at long last, the true "new era" can begin in Philadelphia.
We can only speculate as to what happened. If York snapped at Torts for being benched, that's a guy I want on my team. A player should be ticked off if getting benched. Perhaps York crossed the line, who knows. All I know is York is still here, and Torts is gone. York hasn't played well since coming back from injury. We shall see how he performs with Torts out of the picture. Moose Dupont threw an ice filled snowball and hit Fred Shero in head in the parking lot after being benched. Moose was never benched again. I know it was a different era but love the story, if true.
Danny needs to Trade York and Drysdale⦠both bandaids. Iām not buying anything this kids saying. Heās already clearly burnt bridges not sure why fans think he should stick around. Thereās more skilled defensemen in these next 2 drafts take a page out the eagles book draft young talent and save money then spend big on star free agents.

Clearly he got lippy with Torts in Toronto about his benching…I hope they trade him in the near future!

York handled that incredibly well.

Keep Cam York, Danny! He is the type of players on defence the Flyers need in this rebuild, because he'll be a leader on that team some day soon.
Is York tripping on acid in this video wtf is going on with his eyes
JJ in the background was hilarious.
What a P7$$6
Stick with it Cam. You will be free from this team soon enough.
WE ARE A CURSED FRANCHISE. CURSED I TELL YOU

8 million a year wtf
Danny B should try to trade York, he doesn't play hard enough
I thought York would take the next step an be a better player this year but that hasn't happened
Cam is junk and his attitude has always been bad. Reminds me of my 6 year old. Send Iām off after this season is done.
Shame people have to walk things back that they say because of hurt feelings. If you say it, stand behind it with conviction. Boring
Keep York, trade Andrae.

Not an easy situation for a young man to be in. He handled himself great. Letās move on. Go Flyers!
I hope you told Torts where to Stick it!!! LET'S GO FLYERS!!!
Cole Caulfield
Lots of nervous š¬ mannerisms and anxiety š when asked on certain questions . Touching the face and neck
York is a California dream š in on a winters day in Toronto
I know exactly what cam said to torts but I sadly cannot share
Cam is just being nice about Torts. We know what you think!
So complimentary of Torts yet you can play for him. You are soft and I can care less if you become Paul Coffee you have to go.
