The Philadelphia Flyers have just 9 games remaining in the season and yet, they just fired their head coach John Tortorella. After a 7-2 loss on Tuesday night against the Toronto Maple Leafs. The flyers have just one win in their last 12 games, lost their 6th straight against the Leafs and let in 14 goals in just the last 2 games of that losing streak. However, the combination of benching Cam York for nearly the entire game followed by a shocker of a quote in his post game presser “‘not really interested in learning how to coach in this type of season” he was today fired by Flyers GM Daniel Briere as Brad Shaw takes over in the interim. I cover it all and more in todays NHL hockey video!

I think Torts is an epic coach that gets the most out of a player on his team. He isn't afraid to bench stars or captains if they are not giving the effort or buying into his system. Not sure whey people don't like him and side with a player who is being benched. Are players giving their all every shift? If no, then torts is right. He wants perfection and that is what a coach should ask for in life and in hockey.
People are dumb
He doesn't want to learn at this point in the season
They are all but eliminated what's the point in change
The whole Couturier thing is blown out of proportion and Coots handled it like a baby. He sucked so he got benched, just because he was captain doesn’t mean he deserves special treatment from the coach.
Previous Woman Down
This dude is a scumbag just like he’s always been. ✌🏻
Stay at the bottom phlly!
Players run the league now
Wish he was coaching The Devils!!! There’s a LOT of accountability issues there!!!
Tocchet to Philly for his final grand entrance?
I never liked Torts.
If the NYR were smart they would pick him up RFN……and start a Stanley Cup Dynasty team
How many teams has he been a coach for? Not a fan of him.
The real problem of the Philadelphia Flyers has been they haven’t had a true number one starter since Carter Hart disappeared due to sexual assault allegations. They need a good goaltender. If they build on that they could actually have a chance to win
i think he means he does not want to coach a team with whatever kinda personality they have. players are getting younger and things are getting different and is old and prob used to players responding well to his style but i dont think players now respond well to this type of coaching. I could be wrong but im simply guessing whatever he's telling them to do they are not executing and he does not want to coach a team that wont respond to his style
Maybe he might go back to the Tampa bay lighting has the new coach
You can’t fire the team so…..
He will, yes. I'm not a fan of him or his coaching personally- but the last number of teams he's coached on have been dumpster fire depleted rosters, that were not in rebuild mode…rather- teams that management has gotten stagnant with. Hart hasn't looked good in awhile Ersson is AHL at best…Risto was clearly a for the bag signing…couturier hasn't been himself in years..Injuries/no depth…moving Laughton for what they got was a step in the right direction…Farabee should leave too…Provy gone was good for him too. A rebuild that currently has (Pronounced M-ich-kov…not Mee-ch-kov). Torts likely knew he wasn't coming back, the team wasn't playing for him, and management wasn't gonna bring in any depth of quality to compete…though I may not have answered the same as he did, your definitely not motivated to put your best forward…simply just collect the bag, add the W's to your coaching record, and move on to your next job. He's definitely not looking back.
I liked Torts at first but this season seemed toxic. From an outsiders perspective, if it seems that way on the outside then it's probably way worse on the inside. I think Farabee, Frost, Laughton trades were a huge mistake.
I appreciate and admire Torts as a Flyers fan. But you got it exactly right. For two to three years, he is a good coach who can teach the players what it takes to win, but eventually his intensity wanes.
He is a good coach,..but he is a "loose-cannon" also…(very Italian personality)
The Michkov scratches made sense once they explained them. Have him watch the game and how the team plays, and then get in a real translator and describe what the team wants him to do. After those scratching, the kid took off because he was finally on the same page as the rest of the team.
The Couturier scratching made a little sense. He wasn’t playing well and the team was pushing for a playoff spot. That said, he was also coming off of a long term injury and needed to get in time to get up to game speed. With the long term commitment given to him, he should have been given that opportunity.
Rebuild is one thing but coaching a bunch of crybabies through a rebuild is another.
Torts was the last chance for Philly they are never going to be the team they once were. Sad. Fire a man for being honest.
I wish Laviolette had the same self awareness
We live in an era where being honest and authentic is punished rather than celebrated. Torts is a casualty of the times.
if we acted like this at our workplace ….. he is a loose cannon . wtf is the coaching pool a brotherhood ? no new blood !!
I find this so much bullshit. He lost all his players
The bruins really could use him and fire the 3 stooges
Bring him back to NY Rangers.
Would love to see him in Toronto if Bérubé doesn’t work out
Torts is the Bobby Knight of hockey. Everywhere he goes he plays psychological games with his players which generally leads to his teams almost always (except Tampa Bay because of St Louis and Lecavlier) blowing up. He really should be named “Torturella” for the way he destroys his players. I knew that he would not last. His next job should be working for the Spanish Inquisition
Didn’t even mention his benching of Farabee and subsequent iron man streak being broken. He was then traded for nothing.
The entire USA needs some hardline "coaching" right now. They are pee-wee players on the world stage – AT BEST.
He does not develop youth. He does not allow players to play to their strengths. He expects high intensity defense and grit on every shift. He does not treat players fair. He has has favorites and does not hold all his players accountable the same way. Players lose respect after a few years. Happens with every team he has coached.
I refuse to believe this narrative that his style doesn't work in the NHL anymore. I'm tired of the soft sports bs going on. If this guy has a few mentally tough, hard playing veterans he will take you to the cup. This guy is the coach I would want to play hard for. These winy ass kids need to wake up and realize your coach shouldn't hold your hand and apologize for squat. I hope to God Joe Sacco is let go and Torts is brought into Boston. If that happens…look out! Sweeney AND Neely should get the 👢 as well. Let's goooo
I'm amazed that their only win in that 12-game stretch was against my Lightning, who Torts used to coach. I think this might be the end of the line for him as a head coach.
…how is nobody considering that the goaltending is the biggest problem with this team?
don't get me wrong, I know they're not the colorado avalanche out there. but they're extraordinarily young across the board, they play their asses off for the most part, and the young guys show serious signs of talent being honed into skill
they're a lot better than the goalies have allowed them to look. especially in the second half of this season.
torts has summed it up perfectly in AT LEAST one press conference this year : "Sometimes, you just need a save."
their goaltending department quite literally has the worst save percentage in the whole league. Giving up 2-3 goals for every 5 shots became the standard for the Flyers.
bottom line, torts was never going to be the coach by the time this team (hopefully) becomes a legit playoff team
but I can't blame the guy for what happened to this team this season. the majority of the blame has to fall on the goalies.
fucking embarrassing
How you found something, like an identity for this team? "No." 😅 Great beginning to this video.
Torts has always gone into a new ream and humiliated the existing team leadership. I’m flabbergasted that this guy continues to get coaching positions.
Torts is not a good person
Torts for Torture
I hope that we never see him as a coach in Winnipeg. A$$ho
