As a life long fan of my hometown wings that was born and raised here in the early 90’s and am still living here, it’s been clear to all of us who have been watching over the years, that Bettman (and a lot of other guys that deal with the entire league), hate the Detroit Red Wings. If it’s clear to us, then the front office definitely sees it too.
There even used to be a hockey website (maybe still around) called “Anyone But Detroit.”
Surprising hearing it seemingly confirmed from an insider. Will make lifting the Cup again all the sweeter. It really is Detroit vs. Everybody.

During the 2009 Stanley Cup finals Pittsburgh finished their Conference finals early in either 4 games. Detroit on the other hand won in 5 games, but we're banged up, multiple players we're hurt. What does Gary Bettman do he chose to start the Stanley Cup finals 2 days earlier that was already pre-arranged. Which he purposely did because he knew Detroit was banged up. He robbed Detroit 2 extra days of rest, which definitely affected the outcome of the playoffs!
They don't need our Detroit money anymore. They already have our 💰💸. They want that new money.

More facts to support the theory – Jamie Benn almost crippling Larkin by crosschecking the back of his neck off of a face off and not getting penalized or suspended by DoPS. Also 8 draft lotteries and the best result the Wings have is not having moved down any spots.
Bettman just sucks
It’s not just Bettman, it permitted through every TV station that broadcasts Hockey games. All the coverage is slanted, plus half the broadcast team either played for or is associated with the team the Wings are playing
No surprise to me. Mr. Bettman has never been on good terms with the Iillitch family!
So a playoff team gets the first overall pick and the moment Detroit puts together a playoff bubble team it's impossible for the Wings to get that pick. Coincidence? I think not.
Remember when in around 2012 the Red Wings played game 7 in California then had to fly to Chicago to play THE NEXT DAY in Game 1 of the CONFERENCE FINALS?!? Just imagine if that Game 7 went into OT. Unreal the league allowed that, would NEVER happen to Crosby or Malkin.

I wish there was a way sports commissioners like Bettman and Goodell could be voted out of their positions. Like owners get together with the NHLPA and request an election or something lmao. It's been clear for years Bettman was against the Wings. He doesn't even try to hide it. Him and George Parros despise Detroit.
And just to touch on the 2020 draft, selecting 4th overall was kind of a blessing in disguise tbh. Raymond is arguably the best player from that draft so far.
I’m over the fact that we didn’t get the first overall pick. I’m fine with having raymond over laf. What I’ll never get over though is drafting zadina over Quinn. We have no one to blame but ourselves for not being a competitive team right now.
Time to bring this up, Red Wings were punished for 25 yrs of success, Cup Winners should get 1st pick jmo
If the league had any interest in rigging the draft, I assure you McDavid would not be in Edmonton right now and the Oilers would not have received the first pick in 4 out of 6 years.
To be honest I don't think Bettman "hates" any team, I think he has his preferences and those are the ones he moved or opened through expansion. Nobody will tell me that he did not like the Arizona Coyotes. Or the Carolina Hurricanes. But that he hates team so much that he would rig the draft lottery, I don't buy it. One of the luckiest team with the lottery in recent memory has been the Oilers and I see no reason at all for Bettman to like the Oilers.
Pittsburg and Boston seem like they are on TV more than anyone else. Doesn't matter how crappy their record is. Yes, I am a Red Wings fan, and have been my whole life. Any Detroit team, except the Pistons.

Illitch spoke out against Bettman during the lockout.
Illitch was one of the owners that felt Bettman was using the Salary Cap to create a form of profit sharing. Illitch believed in a free market approach. You make more $$ you should benefit from
It. Bettman had taken heat from owners for his failed expansion teams. Teams that were uncompetitive and small
Markets. He needed a salary cap to rectify it and make the future expansion an unfair advantage RE: Vegas

Who remembers when malkin didn't get suspended from game 8 in scf in 09 after the nhl made the fighting rule in that year

Remember in the ‘09 Cup Finals when the refs gave Malkin and instigator penalty in game 2, and Betteman just unilaterally decided to veto an automatic suspension. Then in game for when the Pens scored the game tying goal while they had too many men on the ice for like forty seconds. Yeah…Wings fans have known this for awhile.
I've always felt both the NHL and NBA draft lotteries can be rigged whenever they choose to do so. If they rigged them every season it would be too obvious. The 2 worst teams in both leagues should always have a 60/40 flip for the #1 and #2 overall picks and all other lottery teams should get no better than #3.

The NHL does occasionally pick a franchise to help out like when they help the Pittsburgh franchise when they were bankrupt and Blackberry was going to buy them and move them to Hamilton. NHL gifts Pittsburgh a fifth, two seconds and two firsts in five years. Then they gave Edmonton 6 picks with 4 number ones, a seventh and a third. Detroit doesn't need help as they have picked so many great players 150th or higher and they keep finding them where others aren't paying attention so they steal Seider and Kasper. I am waiting for them to bring in some stud from Luxembourg or Bangladesh or Djibouti.
What the NHL has done is created parity. How many teams could go on a 6 game win streak and pull into a playoff spot right now?
