Sidney Crosby closing in on history as the Penguins take 3/4 points!

The Pittsburgh Penguins got three out of a possible four points over the weekend and Hunter and Pat are here to break it all down. They start with the game against the Columbus Blue Jackets and how the Penguins played their butts off for the entire 60 minutes. They discuss how all four lines contributed to the win and how Alex Nedeljkovic had his best start since the 4 Nations break. They look at some of the saves he made before discussing Boko Imama and his impact, Sidney Crosby’s brilliance, Geno’s performance, and so much more. After that, they recap the game against the Panthers and how Crosby continues to close in on history. They look at his effort and how he’s playing every game like it is Game 7 of the Stanley Cup Final. They also dive into Bryan Rust’s performance and Tristan Jarry having another strong start. Finally, they shout out Sergei Murashov for going 10-0 in the AHL and why he has to start Game 1 of the Calder Cup Playoffs.

  1. Last night the 3rd forward pair in OT was Tomasino and Lizotte. And my first thought was, "What is Lizotte doing out there?" … then I looked at the roster, and yeah, he's probably in the top 6 of forwards you would put out there 3-on-3. Which tells me a) just how bad this roster is as this team rides out the season, but also b) just how hard this team is still playing right now. I mean this roster should be getting beaten pretty soundly by teams like Florida, Vegas, Minnesota, New Jersey, etc. I don't know that this means for the future, but they aren't laying down like some other bottom feeders out there, for what it's worth.

  2. For this year's draft … picking anywhere from 6-10 is six and one half dozen the other. Picks 5-10 (or thereabouts) are mix-and-match depending on whose draft rankings you are looking at between forwards Desnoyers, Eklund, McQueen, Lakovic, Frodell, O'Brien … or Jackson Smith if you want a defenseman. And now this huge 6' 6" d-man Radim Mrtka is moving up to the top 10 on some rankings. And that's kind of the point … there is going to be an equally an good player sitting there whether they are drafting at 6 or drafting at 10. They aren't going to get the next generational player to backfill Crosby or Malkin, but they're going to get a really good player for the future.

  3. Best pens podcast hands down. Just want y’all to know I look forward to every episode and you guys are doing a fantastic job. Thank you

  4. I've actually like how koopanen has played. He's big, he's in the play. He's looked better than most of the guys that have come up. I'm interested to see if they consider him an nhl 4th liner for next season. He penalty kills and looks better than guys like bemstrom.

  5. Rossi is assuming worst case scenario and you all are assuming best case scenario. Won't know which is correct for years.

  6. Can’t wait to see sid break another record and reach another milestone; shout out to Imama, first time since 2021 (Boyle) for a 🐧 to score and fight in same game and shout out to Hayes who I thinks played well
Really liked the way the 🐧 played, and had me asking where has this been all season?
    Let’s go pens 🐧🐧🐧🐧🐧

  7. On the Rob topic, you also want to attract young players. Tanking and looking terrible to end the season doesn't help. Players won't want to come to the pens if they have a losing culture so keep it competitive and positive. That will attract more players and having sid at the wheel will be the sprinkles on top.

  8. I like Rob Rossi, but I strongly disagree with him. The reason for that is because there is no one, and I mean no one in this upcoming draft that is worth being terrible for. While Schaefer, Misa, Martone, and Hagens I think we’ll be good NHL players none of them are going to be generational talents and they are not worth being bad for this is not like the 83-84 season where the Penguins did intentionally tank games, but that was the draft a guy by the name of Mario Lemieux, who was a once in a generation type player, none of those players are once in a generation type guys.

And I agree with what you said Pat you have a standard here in Pittsburgh and you want the young players that are coming up here to follow that standard. You don’t want to create a culture of losing.

  9. I hate all the ads, but i choose to not use adblocker so ad residuals go to you guys who provide this for free. However, I am ecstatic to experience ads that aren't about betting or meal plans. Actually happy.

  10. Glad you guys commented on Rossi's doomsday tweet. While I would like to see them get an impact prospect as early as this year, it probably wasn't going to happen anyways without some of the winning lately because this draft isn't that deep. And like you guys also mentioned in other shows, tanking isn't a guarantee to future glory. Ask Chicago, Detroit, Buffalo, Ottawa, how tanking has worked out for them lately.

  11. Exactly. Florida is the better team and the better team won. Florida doesnt look as good as last season but they also have a lot of injuries and lost key defenseman to free agency. They could be scary when tkachuk, marchand and ekblad return for the playoffs. I think the rangers would be smart to let the pick go to pittsburgh even if its in the top 13. Selfishly i hope they keep it if their able too. Really like next year's draft class. Am proud of the pens effort this past week in every game. Islanders game just got away in the 3rd. Columbus is a good young team struggling at the moment and florida is a cup contender when they get healthy.
