Which Current NHL Players Are Already Hall of Fame Worthy? 2024 Edition (Weber’s In)

I made a video on this topic many years back, so I thought now would be a good time to make an updated version.

  1. Maybe im just too high on Quinn Hughes, but he facilitates the entire offence pretty much every game. If he gets a cup on top of his norris, i would vault him to hall of fame immediately.

  2. I’d also argue with putting Montour, McCann, Tarasenko, Seider, Rasmus Anderson, Nazem Kadri & Mackenzie Weegar on the board. Do I think they’re HOF? Maybe not but are worth mentioning.

  3. If Corey Perry is a lock, then so should be Rantanen. Perry has only two seasons with point per game or better when Rantanen already has six seasons with point per game or better. Plus his production does not drop in the playoffs.

  4. I love hockey but I’m probably only clue up on this staff around 0.5% of what you are, but undoubtedly for me would be Sid the kid!

  5. Giving Jamie Benn a checkmark but not Burns is craaazy. They have about the same point totals, yet Burns is a defenseman. Hes 14th all time in D scoring. What is Benn in forward scoring, is he even top 200?

  6. How do you figure Burns, with a norris and almost 900 point, doesnt get in, by Weber, with 590 points and no norris trophy gets in?

  7. Shannon, I think if Binnington continues to play well, he would be in the same category as Carey Price — a great goalie who toiled for not-so-great teams. PLUS, Binnington actually HAS won The Cup. Matter of fact, JB should have won the Conn Smythe in 2019, not O’Reilly. Binnington’s performance in the first period of Game 7 alone when Boston dominated, should have won him the Smythe.

Heck, for that matter, I would have voted for Jayden Schwartz over O’Reilly as Schwartz was a stud in the first 3 rounds. Unfortunately the voters only seem to factor the Finals into their votes.

  8. I find the discussion on Pietrangelo interesting. I even debate it myself. Personally, I think the resurrection of Jay Bouwmeester after recovering from his injuries, and the ascendancy of Colton Parayko, and continued good play of Gunnarsson and other Blues foot soldiers were contributing factors in the Blues Stanley Cup win in 2019. Was Petro’s captaincy a factor or not? You could make a minor case that he scored the GWG in Game 7 against Boston. But is Petro a great HOF worthy defenseman? Personally, if they continue their current trends, I think Jordan
Binnington is a more worthy case than Pietrangelo.

Speaking of HOF worthy, Carl Gunnarsson’s OT goal in Game 2 is forever etched into my “personal HOF” memory banks. After all #4 (Bobby Orr) beat us in OT in Boston in 1970, which broke my 16 year old heart, so it took #4 Gunny to erase that horrible omen and heal my 65 year old heart in Boston some 49 years later. Our whole 2019 Cup run was a series of “Finally Erased Omens and Jinxes”. Believe me, I can empathize with how a long time Leafs/Sabres/Canucks fan can feel.

  9. Who in this freaking world would argue against Connor McDavid NOT being the definitive #1 in the world right now if not in Human history?
McDavid is at least 1 tier above Crosby the MOMENT HE ENTERED NHL.
And this is coming from a Crosby fan that's watched him over the years before anyone even heard of McDavid.
In fact, McDavid has a very strong argument to be much better than Crosby at his prime even when McDavid was only playing in the Juniors.

  10. Letang should be on of the Hall of Fame members, for sure. Karlsson way less than Letang. How. Just how you did that?!?!

  11. Marchand is absolutely in the hall of fame, half the reason people hate him is because he's so good

  12. “Already HOF worthy”. And then lists numerous players that aren’t even close or have barely even played in the league.

  13. Marchand has a Stanley Cup, international championship resume, 2 first team all-star and 2 second team all-star., 1000+ games played and will likely break the 1000 point mark as well. As much as he is hated by so many i think he is a pretty safe bet he gets in the HOF

  14. 29 check marks is too many…unless those check marks were to be “most likely to get into the HOF when they retire”. Panarin, Doughty, and Backstrom? I’d be fairly surprised.

  15. Makar is a shoe-in. Makar and Bobby Orr are the only two D-men to win the Conn Smythe before their 24th birthday. Makar, Orr, and Lidstrom are the only three D-men to win the Norris and Conn Smythe in the same year

  16. I think what a lot of people forget it that it is NOT the NHL Hall of Fame, it is the Hockey Hall of Fame so you also look at what they did in junior and international competitions. Corey Perry for example on his NHL record alone I don't think he would get in, throw in junior and international and he surely gets in.

  17. I understand wanting to throw a bone to fans of every team but including a name from every team just for the sake of including them makes this list seem pretty pointless

  18. I’m very interested to hear Shannon on why Cale Makar isn’t in, but Jamie Benn is. Even if you talk about length of career so far, Benn isn’t close to the player Makar is

  19. Why the hard no on Scheifele?

On his current pace, there is a fairly decent chance he ends his career with 500 goals, 600+ assissts.

  20. I don’t understand how Weber is a lock and Carlson isn’t. Carlson has a cup and 4 years atleast left to play. Had 20pts in 24 games, Weber had 6pts in 22 games on his run. I don’t see the logic, love to here the argument

  21. Panarin a lock if he retires today?

I found that a bit crazy. He lost several years by coming to the NHL later in his career and has no other trophy to his name than the Calder. No Cup either. I'd say he isn't close to getting in, and I don't actually think he will when all is said and done either. The Rangers have a quality team though, and if they were to win the Cup and Panarin played a key role, then his chances would get much better.
