First year starter and replacement for Justin Herbert has some tools and some room for growth. Here’s what he does well and needs to work on.
Welcome to Elite Athletes TV. I’m Mike Pawlawski, former 11 year pro quarterback and quarterbacks coach here at eliteathletestv.com. Today I want to talk about University of Oregon quarterback, Tyler Shough. In the PAC 12 conference 9 out of 12 quarterbacks are either operating a new offense or first year starters. And some of them are first year starters in a new offense in this strange COVID offseason, where you didn’t have time to install like you’d like. As I break down film from around the conference. You can see a lot of that in these young quarterbacks’ play. I did a preview of Tyler Shough this summer.
Heres the Link:
You can check out my off season thoughts. I’ll tell you up front, I like him, but there’s a lot of things that he needs to work on. Some stuff shows up over and over and I’ll show you some of that on video here in just a second. If you’re new to the channel, and you love football content make sure you hit the subscribe button and ring the bell. Whether you’re a player, a coach or a fan, give us a comment. We’d love to hear from you. Give me a thumbs up if you’re ready to review Tyler Shough University of Oregon quarterback. Please make sure you share this video out. We’re trying to help as many young athletes as we can. We’re trying to grow this channel so we can do that. So the more you share it out, the more young athletes are exposed to this content to help them learn the game, the more lives we can improve.
Now let’s take a look at Tyler shuck, we’re going to take a look at three different games, several different situations a couple different plays where he can improve and where he’s really good right now. So let’s start with the tools. One of the things that I love is he has a really big arm, he can flat throw the ball. And he’s crazy athletic. Now remember, the quarterback who just left Oregon is probably going to be in the Pro Bowl this year. So Justin Herbert was also athletic but they didn’t let him run as much.
And he is fast he can straight roll. So speed. It’s one thing that offensive coordinators love in a quarterback. It gives them an ability to extend plays. It’s one thing defensive coordinators hate so big arm and speed two good things going for him.
Just like any quarterback and especially young quarterbacks. Tyler Shough obviously has some room for improvement but he has some raw skills as soon as he settles down I think he’s going to be pretty special up there in the new offense with all the RPO influence with the quick passing game. I think it’s going to suit his style especially as such a gifted athlete running the football. Will he be one of the marquis QB’s in the Pac-12? That remains to be seen. But he has the tools and the talent around him to make it happen. I appreciate you watching this quarterback review today with a little bit of quarterback training in there as well. Hopefully we improved your football skills your football IQ and helped you get better at the game.

I like Shough a lot so far. I still think Herbert is the best QB Oregon’s had in years but Shough will be close. He’s actually more elusive than Herbert. The only thing that worries me about Shough is his release is a tad slow and this is why I think he’s throwing picks. He should avoid throwing into tight coverage until his release gets a tad quicker.
You F'd up Herberts eval. We'll see how you do with this one?
With the money and the pipeline full of 5** talent i can see why they let him go. They may regret it. Texas Tech will benefit
Texas Tech fan here, thank you for this breakdown, I really enjoyed it!
I'm looking forward to seeing Shough play in Cumbie's system.
👈👉looking forward to seeing him play too!
Interesting. People were complaining last year that he never threw over the middle. Maybe this is why.
