Canadiens Occupy a Wild Card Spot in March, Future is Bright in Montreal

The work done in Montreal to rebuild this team quickly has been impressive. If they do or don’t make the playoffs this year, they’ve got themselves set for future success.

  1. Kent hughes said before the season that the plan for mtl this season was to be in the "mix" and without trading any prospect or draft pick at the trade deadlines being still in the mix its remarkable.
lets be honest without a 2nd line too😅 playoff or not really nice seaaon cant wait for years to come

  2. For several years we hear like "that" team has a bright future… or next season they will be dangerous… However, these young teams comming from rebuild are rarely succesful right after claiming that the rebuild is done… they lack depth, and experience and rely on unpredictable youth… it's either goaltending or defense which usually fail "the next season"… This team play great hockey right now, however, when you look closely, this team is fragile… if one thing doesn't go right this team looks like a lottery team… (similar to NJD a few years back)… Of course we have an offseason so we will see. The thing is that when you have so much young talent, they need to play and you want them on the team, but the team needs prime/vets to compete for PO… so what you do… it's very very rare and unlikely that a team full of youth and talent become a contender… usally it takes time to mature mentaly and physically as well…

  3. is cbj's strength of schedule harder or easier if tasarov is in net and they dont win on the road?

but the habs are playing teams assured of a playoff spot.i assume sitting guys for heath.
would that make their schedule easier or harder?

strength of schedule is like advanced stats to me shannon.
    i think theyre gobbdygook

    gohabsgo

  4. Nick suzuki might be the best captain i have seen , he goes to the gm at the start of the season and says we dont want to be sellers , leading up to the 4 nations Montreal goes into a bad slide , Suzuki says to the gm , don't trade the pending free agents on the team ,gm says "force me to not trade them away" nick suzuki then proceeds to lead the NHL in scoring and montreal goes on a tear. That's a captain . Can't wait for this team to be completed

  5. i still think that a fatal flaw for the canadiens is that dont have "the guy" and now are to high up to probably draft him in the near future. could be a 2nd round bounced playoff team for a while if the younger players develop

  6. Shannon – you failed to mention the leaked Bettman telegraph that states Montreal wins the Cup in 25/26.

  7. Yeah team looks like tomorrow's contender. Could be as soon as next season with these strides many of their young players have taken. This year, I doubt they will be able to shock us by beating Panthers or Canes in playoffs. Canes I have my bet on to make finals from east. Stars – Canes… That will be sweet.

  8. Agree with your assessment. They will be dangerous if they make the playoffs. The main reason is they believe in themselves and celebrate each other. The attitude in the dressing room has to be excellent because of the style of the coaching staff. This reminds me of the last Stanley Cup win and the coaching of Jacques Demers. The players then, and now, love playing for the coach AND will make the extra effort. When interviewed about the1993 Stanley Cup win, Patrick Roy (10 straight overtime wins) said the most important factor in their win was Jacques Demers, not himself. That tells you everything.

  9. The 2021 56-game Habs team was assembled to shut down McDavid and Matthews. Bergevin said in an interview before the season how the defence was assembled to shutdown Edmonton and Toronto’s high powered offences. Wasn’t as “Cinderella” as people claim. That d core was insane plus Price back there and having 4 second lines helped a ton so we could just roll them non stop while all could defend and score when the chances arose

  10. Going to UBS tonight to see just what kind of hockey this Canadien team is playing. I expect them to skate circles around the Islanders, they are younger, faster, and more skilled than the Islanders. There is always the possibility that Sorokin comes out with his cape on and just steals one…but we shall see.

  11. Habs have nothing to lose. Their whole season is a win win. First line has another year of experience. The young guns do too. Hutson is having a season for the ages. Gally is giving them more than you can ask for, and Patty Laine is the best bargain in the league. Marty St Louis is improving game by game as a coach too. If they don't make the playoffs, they'll still have all those things to look forward to. And if they do make the playoffs, they'll have zero pressure 🤷‍♂️ They've hit the rebuild lottery really
