Leafs dont make playoffs, Leafs resign Marner, JT, Knies
Leafs didn't start skating skating till the 50min mark. Look, it really doesn't matter who they play, the core isn't built for the playoffs (see last 8yrs). They refuse to battle, their forecheck is weak, they're just a perimeter team, not enough heart from core forwards. They need a major overhaul in the offseason and that starts with management and the core 5, no more lipstick on the pig!
I have no idea why you assume shanahan will be gone if they lose in the playoffs

Well… This team won't change until entire concept of the team will change. Right now – it's a cash-cow for core 4 and everybody knows that. You want it perform well – you should advocate for dismantling core 4 in a favour of more good players and building it incrementaly. This obsession with core 4 is ridiculous. Say what you want about them – but they do not add anything to a team during playoffs for years now. They are good on paper, but once at least one is off sick – that's it – you are left with entire team consisting of 4th line players. Other teams are good because instead of trying to hire someone like Auston – who can be a sniper, they are focusing on more average, but distributed stats across the board. THAT's why they win.
IMO, this team should should not try to have like 2-3 best of best and then others meh, instead – it should focus on approach teams like Vegas Golden Knights, or even BOS are doing and build incrementaly over the years, rather than do mashup and then hope that this year will be it. Again, as Steve said himself – i.e. Tampa – traided off everything and they are still kicking 4ss (I wonder why…)

In 1976 I was a young buck starting out in a career in construction. At that time the leafs had many rough years after winning their LAST CUP IN 1967. I was sitting in a lunch room with some other leafs fans discussing yet another sub par performance by our leafs. One older seasoned leafs fan shouted out (just like you, Steve) in anger calling them “THE TORONTO MAPLE NOTHINGS!” That phrase has stuck with me over the past 50 years, not only because we haven’t EVEN SEEN A CUP FINAL SERIES in that ENTIRE TIME, but because my FRUSTRATION is GREATER THAN YOURS, ONLY BECAUSE I HAVE SUFFERED EVEN LONGER at the ineptitude of ownership, management and players over that time. However, I must give credit to a few over the years when Wendel, Dougie, Matt’s and others came closer than any others over that time span. Shanahan has stuck with his ‘plan’ but, REALLY, how can you expect a team constituted this way to win, when they have PROVEN that they just don’t HAVE IT. Last years playoffs were the end for me when Matthews and Nylander couldn’t suit up for the most important games. ALL of the core guys AND REILLY were overpaid before EARNING any playoff success and now it’s just good enough to show up for the REGULAR SEASON. Still SICK OF THIS TEAM, THEY HAVE TRULY RUINED MY LIFE !!!
