Should Canadiens keep Joel Armia or David Savard? | HI/O Bonus

Joel Armia, Christian Dvorak and David Savard could all leave Montreal as unrestricted free agents on July 1. While Dvorak doesn’t appear to have a future with the Canadiens, should Hughes try to re-sign Armia and Savard?

That’s the question answered on this Hockey Inside/Out Bonus episode as The Gazette’s Stu Cowan is joined by former Canadiens teammates and 1986 Stanley Cup champions Chris Nilan and Rick Green.

  1. None of our prospects is capable of doing half of what Savard is doing, trading Kovacevic backfired a little.

For Armia, again no prospects are knocking, he fits with Evans and Heineman and as long as we don’t know what the f*** Dach and Newhook are yet, modifying one of the only two lines that somewhat works seems unwise.

    Caufield – Suzuki -Slaf
    Laine – Center #2 – Demidov
    Heineman – Evans – Armia
    Gallagher/Anderson (?) – Dach – Newhook

    Hutson – Guhle
    Matheson – Carrier
    Xhekaj – Savard

    Dobes/Montembault (1a/1b or 1b/1a)

  2. no way, definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over and expecting different results. Signing the same players nets the same results, need 3 new forwards, back / kapanen will replace dvorak, demidov takes newhooks spot on the 2nd line, reinbacher or maillioux will take a spot, still need a spot for dach / newhook

  3. Let’s see how much these guys love playing in MTL when they get an offer below what they currently make. Savard is year to year and Armia is no more than 3yrs.

  4. Armia is a [must] to keep because his Hockey is a great thing for the Habs & it will help this new team to get a young established skilled player that can fill his void when he finally ends his tenure with the Habs. Re-signing Armia would mean a couple extra won games looking to next years season.
