Corporations have contingency plans incase someone leaves the company. You plan for this before it happens so when it happens you can pivot quickly.

John thought he could sign Geno Smith for around 35 million a year. Geno Smith wanted 40 to 45 million a year and wasn't willing to negotiate, he wanted the money and left because of it. They pivoted to Darnold who is a way better prospect than knowing Geno's ceiling with his red zone yips. 21 touchdowns, leading the league in red zone turnovers for two straight years, Darnold had 35 TDs. It's an upgrade, 7 years younger and 10 million cheaper, less interceptions and sacks.

there should be some consequences. But if you talk to Sam Darnold People when he is a free agency, who cares? It's up to Sam to decide where he wants to go.
John Schneider and Pete Caroll are friends. They talk to each other all the time. If Pete needs Geno Smith, he will tell John. There's no corruptions man.
