Marner's not leaving. He and his wife are excepting a baby. I'm sure his wife will not want to uproot and move away from I understand is a very nice home, not to mention the support of family & friends. I'm sure Marner's camp will do everything to leverage their position, but in the end there is a bigger picture than just money. Furthermore, he knows they have to trade before July 1st for him to get that 8th year, and the Leafs could just let him hang and he only get's 7 years max if he walks.

It’s gonna be funny when Marner becomes an oiler this offseason after the leafs had all this talk about McDavid going over there 😂. Just think McDavid marner played together a lot of 4 nations and in junior theyre friends. Marner is a Kessel type player and he will NEVER win if he is to be the main guy. And with his demand of 14 million he will have to be the main guy and therefore he will never win
Tre playing hardball with Marner by leaking the possible deal for Rantanen, which Marner nixed. If he ultimately leaves Toronto, he will be hated in his hometown. Lots of pressure on all sides!

Mitch’s contract will solely lie on if he can finally prove himself as a playoff performer. If he has another ho-hum playoff I say take the 13 or maybe more that he would want and spend it elsewhere. Or whatever his new deal is it comes with a limited no move clause so the leafs have some options if they feel it’s time to move him. Either way we’ll be okay.
what did he earn? mgmt was stupid in giving him the clauses he got was stupid. The only person that deserved a no movement clause in the NHL is McJesus.

Marner is a great player, not even considering the "who is better" question vs Rantonen – he is going to be a problem. He's a problem cause of his NMC. He appears to be a whiner (through the scope of the media for what thats worth). He's going to go where he is paid (understandable) and the leafs get nothing OR the leafs overpay him. He's a problem if you are playing against him too.

Without Marner to feed Mathews the Leafs wouldn’t be where they are today. He’s the best play maker on the team.
Need to stop handing out NMC – NTC going forward. GMs need leverage to make their teams better.
Alternate theory:
Marner will sign with toronto. But with a kid coming, is gonna go to free agency to guarantee what he gets from Toronto is the best they can do.
And instead of "it's his fault we don't have rantanen" it's "the only thing they'd trade rantanen for was marner"
Maybe them asking marner gives them a better idea of where his heads at. If he wanted to leave, he could have given his demands to Carolina.
Now they know it's not about wanting to leave. Maybe he and the wife have agreed to go to July 1st and at least see all options.
