If Murphy’s Law Was an NHL Franchise…

I wanted to take a look at Buffalo on the eve of the trade deadline. Names will change over the next 24 hours, but will the outlook change at all?

  1. Not as long as Pegula keeps this ownership style. Refusing to pay for scouting. Refusing to spend to the cap. Not allowing Lindy to bring his own assistant coaches bc he doesn’t want to pay for new coaches. Hiring Lindy largely bc New Jersey is paying almost his entire salary. Not firing a completely incompetent GM bc he is a yes man. Until these things change, the players are only going to take things so seriously. Why should they run through a wall to win when the org won’t?

  2. No. They never will figure it out. Sadly.

I'll add that if some new owner swoops in, buys the team, and relocates, I'm done with hockey.

  3. i’m pretty new to this whole NHL stuff but it seems like buffalo is where you go as a high skilled draft pick to prove that you’re good enough to play in the big leagues so you can move to a REAL franchise

  4. Let's clarify this whole Eichel surgery thing. Eichel had already asked to be traded before his neck injury. The Sabres still owed him 8 years of his contract. The ADR surgery Eichel wanted was still considered experimental and was done on only one NHL player at the time. If the surgery failed the Sabres would be on the hook. If it worked, Eichel still wanted to leave. So all risk and no reward for Buffalo. That was the issue. It made sense for whatever team would trade for Eichel would assume his contract and the risk of the surgery. As it turned out the surgery worked, Eichel's fine and VGK has a stud player. Eichel was never staying in Buffalo if they allowed him that surgery. Please stop acting like Buffalo was withholding medical care. That never happened.

  5. Sabres biggest problem is they can't defend their end. They give up many bad goals. The kneejerk reaction is to blame UPL but it's more how they defend in front of him. And yes, Lindy Ruff deserves some blame for this.

  6. That bills loss to KC in the afc championship hurt een more this year because we knew we had nothing to look forward too

  7. My favorite team since I was 7. Played goalie and mimicked Hasek. After I FINALLY gave up 2 years ago, I'm just sad I forgot hockey exsisted.

  8. they need a gm with experience! The last one with experience was Scotty Bowman. That didn’t work well either! DEVELOPMENT is the key also. Young guys don’t know how to win! They don’t play for one another!
Lucic running Miller, Thompson getting cranked against Nj

  9. You know you got problems when your team is the youngest team with a good prospect pool for 15 years in a row. Lol the players definitely get older every year. So how come they don’t get any older or better??? That’s right cause they take guys when young, have them play in the nhl together so it’s basically 20yr olds and a couple FA nobody wants vs well established players and ruin their love and spirit for the game. Then trade them all once they hit the physical maturity needed to play in the nhl and watch them flourish with other teams.

  10. I would fire all of the management and go look for new coaches and and trainers to help build this team better than it was

  11. Born and raised in buffalo. They were decent when I was a kid I haven't watched or wanted to go to a game in almost a decade now. Can't name more than 4 guys on the team anymore. The bills and sabres have this weird yin yang relationship were one is absolute trash and the other is above average, that habitually happens and I'll never understand it.

  12. At least I had 2 'back-up' teams I could watch with some confidence , the Rangers and Islanders … although this year all 3 NY teams suck … don't forget O'Reilly who went to the Blues and won the Cup also … when the Sabres rehired Ruff and they lost the very 1st 2 games to the Devils , a team he used to coach also , I knew this 'team' was going nowhere , again

  13. I'm afraid that it's been so long that most of us fans are so numb to losing that watching Rob Ray get smacked in the face with a puck reminds us of the good Ole days!

  14. I remember when I was a kid and the whole city was so pumped on Eichel. It felt like the Sabres had more optimism than the Bills. Now there's literally no reason to get excited about the Sabres. Every year we leave the playoff push too late. Either that or were just a bottom dweller

  15. As a Sabres fan for the last 40 years, I am ashamed. I'm ashamed at myself for not realizing how good we had it when Hasek was in net. Miller aside, who played great for a few years, if you take Hasek away, who carried those teams, we've been a joke for a lot longer.

  16. How many times have they been contenders then traded the core of their team away for draft picks or 2nd or 3rd line players? 3 or 4? Hard to pay the ticket prices and other assorted costs when your team isn’t even competitive. Pay all that money to watch them lose by three goals. No thanks.

  17. When they let Campbell go i lost interest. That should have been a no brainer to pay him proper. So its been a while since ive thought they were worth my emotional investment

  18. Sabres brought in Ruff, but retained all of the assistants because they were still under contract. Same guys who ran the bottom PP and PK units. They kept them.

  19. I am 21 years old. I do not remember the Buffalo Sabres ever being legitimately good or being a team that you should worry about facing.

  20. Babe wake up, new semi-annual sabres doom video dropped!

As a Buffalo fan you're dead right about the apathy. Honestly my love for the game as a whole as diminished, which is a shame. I honestly don't know what else the team can do that hasn't already been tried.

  21. I disagree what we Sabres fans were saying about Eichel. Everyone knew he was a bona fide 1C star player. What we know is he wanted out and was able to use the dispute over his neck treatment to force a trade. But he had asked for a trade a year earlier.

  22. needing more $$$ to build his football shrine, Pegula has an asset he could sell to raise 3-500 mil. or so after taxes.
The stadium costs keep rising. Imagine!!

  23. It is not the coaching. I believe they just don't pay the right players. There are X Saber players everywhere in the league. I don't care anymore. They are Hard to watch
