Crazy day in panther land
Im quite surprsed you didnt back Soderbolm or even Mrzaek. Unless Zito is has his eye on after on another G. I cant see this a good play for a team ready to win another cup.
So the Panthers gave up on Knight? Panthers going to resign Aaron Ekblad?
Trust in Zito
There’s two schools of thought and both are the extremes: the Charoit/Giroux trades going all in for the best team the franchise has had with Hubie and Weegar and Bruno after Q resigned
Then
there is the Tkachuk trade where it shook up the room and signaled a culture change for the better.
That said. While trading Knight was a shock to everyone and trading another pick (which could be a low first) Zito and personnel probably had conversations internally about what needs to happen. Remember Tkachuk was disgruntled with CGY and wanted out after getting walked in 5 against Edmonton. Jones can have a similar change of scenery. As you mentioned Bobs final year is after next year so we have time to figure out our goaltending while also focusing on guys to resign (Ekblad & Bennett) btw with Jones being retained at 25% we will have 20 million in cap space to use in the offseason so there is a possibility we factor in new deals for at least Ekblad, and I’m thinking when we signed Lundy to that 6 year extension it was a signal the possibility Bennett is moved on from. Knight was also making $4.5 million and needing to be resigned. Yeah Chicago can choose to resign him but if dude looks like he’s playing on a team in disarray it could be another bloated contract for Chicago. Chicago needs a full on blow up and I don’t think adding guys like Knight do anything and consider that a defense our caliber plays so well in front of Bob and Knight make their numbers look better. I can see knights sv % drop off hard in these last few games considering how bad their defense is
I'm okay with this jaws! paying 4.5 mill for a backup goalie when we all know Bob will be here this year and next. We definitely can throw in an ECHL goalie and still be fine lol… This is a win now move. Ekblad is gone and Bennett stays! Not to mention that Spencer Knight has had OCD issues which can flair up at anytime. I'm okay with this! Seth Jones is on pace for 54 points in a full 82 game season… We needed more offense on the D-end and he will definitely give us more. Maurice probably also signed off on this as well. We are 100% getting another goalie at the deadline

Zito knows what he's doing, and knows what move is next. They aren't done! Chris Driedger is coming up from Charlotte. I never thought Spencer was the next guy…. 🤣 and you got to be kidding yourself if you thought he was ever gonna be an all star goalie…
I am good with Jones over Ekblad… But Ekblad could give the team a discount (will see)…

Terrible freakin trade. Im at a loss for words. Thank the Lord that Bob is durable. Im a huge Bobby fan, so im happy about him staying longer. Driedger is our backup now. 🤢🤮🤮

Jones played with a garbage team
He will be 30 % better with the panther system ( easy to train like McDonald's)
Knight is lowkey worse than he appears it will be exposed on chicagos team
He now has the defense structured
He can keep bennet
He probably already talked with eky about future signings
He can even load up more when bob retires
He obviously has a goaltender plan we don't see

Im a Canadian hockey fan since age of 4 and i believe in this Florida team and especially zito if anything have some faith.
This is a good move. Spencer was playing great but he won’t replace Bob for years! We needed D help now. This gives us a true right handed D who plays big minutes and skates really well.
We will get Dregger (?) back for now. We are built to win now. This helps us for the Cup push. I don’t know that they aren’t done making moves too. I can see them adding an offensive piece too. And maybe using the 2026 first rounder to do it.
Knight collected a lot of money from the Panthers since being drafted and what has he done for us? Won some games this year but I’m ok letting him go. Shit I would have traded him and kept Lyon two years ago! It’s ok… it will be ok!

From a Blackhawks fan I’m shocked that we got Spencer Knight. You guys deserve more beers because Jones contract doesn’t expire until 2030 with 9.5 million with having most of his contract. He might play well, players play different depending on the roster but you guys are stuck with Bowmen’s contract that he gave Jones.

I'm taking this personally because I live near knighter, see him almost everyday, got to know him and his girlfriend, they mad cool, he was playing nasty and getting his shit together, it sucks, imagine he's devastated.
