You just made me realize the Panthers played chess while Sweeney was flicking around his checkers. They basically made every Bruins fan haaave to root for the panthers through the playoffs so we get that first rounder. I’m gonna be sick all over again 🫠
The return makes sense. Not back until playoffs, 37 year old rental, hand picked FLA as his team of choice, and Sweeney honored that choice. Hurts real bad, but sometimes we need to step back and take the emotion out of it. Will miss Marchy dearly, and hope he comes back to Boston to retire down the road. Will cheer him on if he raises the cup again, and hope to see him make it to the third round — for that first rnd pick!

Grad B+ for Sweeny TDL. Ian dont forget that this year we will pick 100% between 6-10 position and can get a solide prospect like Frondell, Mcqueen or my favorite one Caleb Desnoyers made in Quebec ;). One of these guys could jump quickly into this team and make an impact quickly, go Bs!
Sweeney has thrown so much $#1t at the wall in the last 12 months you can’t even put up a postage stamp in his office. End of last season it was “well, we had to do SOMETHING”. Now this trade deadline it’s “well, we had to do SOMETHING”. There’s a simple reason for this. 9 out of 10 times this approach fails to produce the desired result. But who knows….maybe this time will be different.
Basically confirmed everything during the second period break on ESPN. Emily Kaplan confirmed Marchy wanted more than 2 years, was offered 3 but said the money wasn't up to his value. He went Swayman on them. Also he knows Staff and players in Florida and his family is on the east coast. Also it is possible he goes back to Boston at the end of the season and Boston management said they are open to it. Basically I think he is being allowed a run at the Cup again with Florida and will return to retire as a Bruin. Imo. Think about it, will be a great story and Legacy.

It's not the end of an era. The era was already over. The org just hadn't accepted it.
Looking back at this trade deadline, one day later, if Sweeney had stopped before the Martian trade, I would’ve actually said he did an incredible job, and I don’t particularly like him. However, the Marchand trade was an absolute fumble, so I still want him fired at the end of the season.
I equate this with taking Ray Bourque to Arbitration – they short changed Marchy and since he turned down 2×3 they traded him for nothing – Sweeney & Neely can’t be fired fast enough
Watching this after that wacky Lightning shutout. I drowned my sorrows in a clearance sale centennial jersey to complete my three captain jersey collecting streak. Chara, Bergeron, Marchand. Always my Captains.
But, the Panthers, man. The Panthers. Sigh…
You know? I'm old enough now that I don't mind rooting for a rival if the B's are out. I'll root for Florida. I wish Paul Maurice was our coach. I wish Bennet, Barkov, Reinhart and Tkachuk were Bruins. I hope Marchand wins another Cup. Good luck to them down there.
The real bummer is that we may wait another 5 years to be a real contender again. (I'm recalling the 04-05 seasons here).

"Infinity rings" sounds like management buzzword to pump interest for 2028.
Marchy might be back but the problem is the gifting of players to divisional rivals, Carlo to Toronto and Marchy to Florida, overall, good trading if a little difficult to process due to emotions that you have about players.

I'd rather see Marchand in a Habs sweater than on the Panthers. I was prepared to see him go, but not there and not for the NHL equivelant of $500 worth of Dunkin giftcards
Totally agree with your take on all this. We'll root for Florida (ugh!) to make it to the conference finals, and then root for Brad as an individual, but hope FLA gets smashed!

I personally don't think any player on this year's team is/was worth keeping. It would have been nice to have Marchand end his career here, but after putting out all that money for Swayman and E. Lindholm (both of which have been spectacularly dreadful this year), you know they'd have had to do the same for Marchand — long term, big money (for an aging player). Swayman's response to the gutting of the team is rather amusing, seeing as his abysmal performance has been one of the main reasons for the B's downfall, so I really hope Sweeney (if he even has a job at the end of the season) took notice and finds a way to rid themselves of him. I still think that the root cause of all this is "THE CURSE OF JACK EDWARDS." You notice it all fell apart once he retired.
Brad is currently the dirtiest player in the league, he’s horrible. Boston is probably very happy.
The problem with the NHL draft is outside of the first few picks, the NHL draft is a real crap shoot. Sweeney has proven he is in-effective at drafting well. I think people here in the U.S. think draft picks and they think of the NFL where the % of drafted players making it to the league is significantly higher.

My main frustration with the Marchand trade is that there isn’t a saving grace with it. It’s literally the worst possible situation.
It’s sad Marchand gets traded, BUT maybe it was for a haul? Oh, we got basically nothing. Huh. Well maybe it was to a team I can root for? Oh, it was to the panthers, my least favorite team in the entire league. Well maybe he just wasn’t willing to extend! Oh, he was willing to extend for a decent price…

Those 1st round picks were at 13, 14 (twice), 15, 18, and 29 (so not 32nd like Bruins homers like to lie about)

The big club roster has less talent on it than it ever has after 10 years with Don Sweeney as GM and their Farm System is at the bottom of the league as well
No playoff winning, bad big club roster, bad farm system and the team is in Cap Jail every year

Honestly love marchand but his heart wasnt in hockey any more just look at the difference in a couple years . Idk i hate sweeney but i really wish we were getting a more immediate return also.
