Zary elbowing on Pettersson – Tough Call Recommendation
Connor Zary didn’t like the hit by Elias Pettersson on Nazem Kadri so he took vigilante justice, immediately targeting him and launching to elbow him in the head.
I am fully on board for a physical game, but these cheap shots – an elbow to the head, and the back of the head where he doesn't even see it coming – as well as cheap shots after the whistle, need to be stopped. It is not hockey.
How can he not get kick out of the game for this. Elbow to head on an unsuspecting player . Refs were a joke. And no canucks came after zary other than hoglander
I hate the way players in the modern NHL feel the need to respond to a good clean hit with cheap shots or a fight. Man the fuck up! Take the hit and then hit them cleanly later when you get the chance.
Calgary fan here. Very bad decision by Zary and should be a suspension. He's not that type of player and it's his first offence. My guess, 2 or 3 games because of that. Hopefully Petterson is going to be ok.

Follow-up to this prior comment … "Give credit to the officials. They actually called a penalty as sometimes the officials kind of miss these kind of hits (though there are several of them on the ice), or the player being plowed into the glass from behind, but never, ever missing the stick in the gloves for a millisecond for the all-important 'hooking' call. Anyway, another bad look for the NHL, some guy I (and surely many other fans unless you are a Flames fan or play hockey pools, of which it is a no on both counts for myself) never heard of with a 1970s NHL/WHA-like cheap shot to a young up and coming Canucks d-man, important to the team down the stretch. Let's see if the league even sends this Flames player a text message to say 'please refrain from this roller derby-type kind of activity', let alone giving him the suspension he is so worthy of."
Now we add: Can you see the NHL official in the "hearing", "call", or whatever, going to him: "And who are you exactly? Remind us once again." … Just when you thought it could not get more sadly comical than Brock Boeser being knocked out of the line-up by a 1-goal scorer!!! along comes a guy who if it was the days of hockey card collecting, the only relevance he would serve was to fill out the collection, as no one other than those in the city he played in would know who he was!
Crosscheck a guy in the back, who is about to be hit= perfectly clean play
Throw a hit (albeit interference) and the guy turtles before he even gets touched (cuz he knew the hit was coming) causing head contact, and that's suspension worthy??
Must be the same disciplinary team that lets rempe get away with a purposeful headshot every second game…
I'm a Canucks fan and i was watching the game and i thought it was a reasonable response from Zary. Whether they are penalized for it or not I'll always defend a player standing up for their teammates especially with a hit like this that was nothing crazy. Wish we could rewind to when retaliation wasn't seen as some evil thing.

That's a suspension… and, no, he didn't leave the ground after contact was made because of physics. He left before.
How he was even able to play the rest of the game is a joke. What happens if he targets someone else head?

First offence-3-5 Games. Sticking up for team-mate the wrong way. Lost his composure. Penalty cost Flames the game in the end.
