Colorado won in my opinion. I actually think Necas is a great player, and am happy he’s with the AV’s
I think everybody won except Chicago and Mikko. CHI got literally nothing but was involved for some reason, and Mikko got basically the cash he would have got in CO, except lost playing with the team he wanted to play his whole career with, and his jersey in the rafters. Now he's just a strong guy in Dallas. He would have been a legend in Colorado.
Avalanche won. Mikko plays for Mikko. I hope he has a great career. We are happy to have Necas and Drury.
There’s been a lot flying back and forth about who won between Dallas and Carolina in the deal and to me they’re both winners. Dallas got a superstar talent for the next 8 years who seems to fit better in their system than in Carolina, and Carolina got picks + a young stud who I think will work great with Brind’Amour’s defensive system and will likely be a Hurricanes legend years from now.
out of the 3 teams miko played for, it´s clearly colorado who won the trading rantanen ,game, then dallas comes second, and canes as the losers,at least for now, will see how this big contract ages for dallas, my guess is they overpaid him big time, his performance will decline and later on canes will be glad to be the one who dodged a bullet.
Two games no 5 on 5 points?2 PP and an EN.
SO he is really playing similar to how he was rolling in Carolina .IMO Dallas lost the trade by a lot becuase they gave up too much and needed to spend on a legit D man.
I feel like Dallas is just like Toronto has been for a few years lacking that one good D man to get them over the top.
Harley is NOT the back up to Heiskanen his offense disappears with too much ice time nd in the playoffs.Heiskanen also plays too many minutes I think he played 28+ his last game that is STUPID coaching he was completely spent last year in the EDM series but the coach hasn't learned a single thing.
Rantanen also costs way too much Carolina was dumb to get him in the first place and real lucky to unload him and that contract while getting great return.
Mikko wins just for escaping brindamour
Obviously Dallas, any other opinion is major copium
Stars needed good defender. Not forward
As a Hurricanes fan who's favorite player was Necas, I lost. But I like that Jancowski guy and look forward to Nikishin coming.
I've also gained a new fandom in the Avs. Avalanche and Hurricanes have bonded as the "disaster bros" and have now also bonded over "Fuck Mikko"
Im sorry but He didnt try in Carolina. His numbers are ridiculous its either he didn't try or Hes a product of playing with McKinnon. I think Colorado won this trade. They got a great defenseman and draft picks. Whether Dallas is the winner remains to be seen.
According to Rod Brind'Amore, Rantenan came in initially and said "There are 4 cities I'm willing to play for, you are not one of them"
Rod did not sound happy about that
The issue with wanting to trade with the Leafs was apparently that Mitch Marner would have been the return, he refused to wave his no trade clause. Also, I don't think Rantenan wanted to be there otherwise they'd have figured something out. Rantenan was being extremely picky
Holy frick the salt is real. Guy gets traded and suddenly his the villain number one.
Dallas won, but they also lost because their players are dropping like flies out there
Dallas obviously lol don’t over think it man
6:57 The real reason is that a Marner and Rantanen trade was close, but Marner didn't want to waive
The two new guys already put up more than mikko rantanen. I'm not even mad about the trade, I would have gotten rif of rantenen for less.
We were never supposed to win the cup this year. Goalie problems most of the year and quite a bit of the roster has changed from trades/injuries all season. The fact they are so high still seems odd.
I think other teams value necas more than the canes value him.
Time will tell though.
Real winner is Jack Roslovic. Dude only gave up his number for 13 games and got a free limited edition Rolex
I don't get the outrage; God forbid the guy actually plan on using his UFA rights. He didn't produce a lot in Carolina but it's not like the effort wasn't there
I'd say the Canes, Avs, and Stars all won the trade. Each of them got what they wanted/needed. Necas wasn't resigning with Carolina and they basically traded away Necas for two firsts, two thirds, and Stankoven. They don't get any worse going from Necas to Stankoven. Necas has fit in well with the Avs and this allowed them to make more moves such as trading for Nelson. Stars don't need the picks and Rantanen helps them win now. In order to fully evaluate this trade, we have to wait and see how Carolina utilizes these 2 first round picks. Whether that be selecting a good player or if they use it to bring in another player to help them win now.
Colorado
I'll tell ya who won… the AVALANCHE! great video. much love from an avs fan.
What I will say that is if the stars traded the avs directly for rantanen, there’s no way we would have gotten him for what we got him for
Rantanen didn’t go to Toronto because Marner wouldn’t drop his no move clause.

I would be more afraid of meeting dallas in the playoffs I know it would be the final but stars get to the western conference championship often
I am a Hurricane Season Ticket Member, but I am also a Stars fan. Mikko did not fit the defensive first system in Carolina. 13 games and only 6 points – he was not used to this style of play and it showed. Rod demands defense first from his players – that is not Mikko. The Canes should have pushed for Brock Nelson instead. If Barkov becomes available, then he would be the perfect fit in this system. Also, just to clear up the Drury and Necas side of this equation: both players asked for trades last year. It has been heavily reported here that Tulsky promised to get a deal done as long as both players continued to play to their fullest and it was no surprise to see them get traded. The biggest loss in my opinion was Drury's 52% faceoff wins. Now we have to hope KK can perform better.
The way I view this deal since Mikko was not staying is the Canes get a 1st and a 3rd for each Drury and Necas, and Stankoven is the cherry on top that I feel could become a 30-goal scorer very soon. Plus, they will now have 35 million in cap to go after players like Nick Ehlers and Brock Boeser – get them in free agency and then you know they want to be here instead of trades and they leave after the playoffs. As far as the lack of star-power; that has never been the Carolina way. However, I will say that Rod has become a master at taking what looks like poor teams on paper and taking them to the ECF twice. I am overjoyed that the Stars gained Mikko, and I might get a second cup win, but the Canes at least got something other than stale popcorn and worthless considerations.
In my personal opinion I like the trade, being a Stars fan, but I would have tried to keep Stankoven. I would have given up Dadanov Marchment or Lybushkin before I would have considered giving up a rising Star like Stankoven. But I get it, if we wanted to get a dangerous powerhouse of a player like Rantanen, you’re gonna have to give up someone big. In the big picture of things, I think DAL won. CAR was foolish to give up Necas in the first place. They gave up a player who wanted to go somewhere else to getting a player that didn’t want to be there either(Mikko). Now we got him. Give Stankoven a few more years to develop and he’ll be just as dangerous too.
I swear the AVs fans are the reason I don’t support the AVs even though I live in Colorado. This guy bust his ass for there team and gets them a cup, gets traded and all of sudden it’s his fault. Douche canoes on their avalanche podcasts make up bullshit stories about him being greedy and suddenly that’s the truth forgetting all the fuck fuck games management has been playing since the off season all the way up to just before they traded him. Shame on the fans for turning on him like that. Bunch of whiny children mad they lost their shiny toy.
He did Carolina dirty!
As a Stars fan, this trade is good for both sides. We hated to see Stank go.
I'm excited for him. There are a lot of Stars fans who want to see him excel in Carolina!
3:17 the biggest winner from that trade is the Avs! 🙂👍
I still cant understand why AVS didnt sign Rantanen, he was ready to much less money then hes market value Is and still they didnt make a deal. I have To now burn all my Avs gear and buy Stars gear. Hi from FINLAND 🇫🇮
Our big ‘star’ had 6 points in the 13 games and didn’t want to be here.
the team that doesnt have to endure his locker room cancer mentality is the winner = Colorado
Here’s why Hurricanes fans are salty about Rantenen:
According to Friedman and others, while Rantenen was still on the Avalanche, Carolina approached COL’s FO about a potential deal. COL’s FO went to Rantenen’s camp on behalf of Carolina to see if they would potential be interested in signing with the Hurricanes long term. His camp said YES, however, they said this thinking it was a negotiation tactic on the FO side of the Avs, so when he was ultimately traded, his camp was absolutely stunned.
As it turns out, his camp lied about being interested in Carolina, and so when he went there, like RBA said in a recent interview, he told them there’s four teams he will sign with (DAL, EDM, TOR, Vegas), and that Carolina was not one of them. Tulsky HAD to trade him, he had no interest in being on the team, as we all personally watched his pathetic effort on the ice.
All in all, Tulsky pulled the trigger on the trade because he had gotten positive feedback from the Rantenen camp on a long term deal. There is no way he should anticipate the camp FABRICATING interest as a negotiation tactic. Now they have assets to swing and hopefully not miss again.
It was hard for me to see Logan Stankoven get traded. I loved his style on the ice. I do believe he is going to be a great player. I think both these teams won here, but only time will tell. How is it though, that a player like Rantanen is being traded like this? Am I missing something?
Avs got nichushkin from the stars, this is just it coming back.
Super sad to see Logan S go. I was a ummed when i heard. That being said, it's going to be exciting to see the team supercharged with Mikko.
