Mitch Marner’s future with Toronto Maple Leafs uncertain after proposed trade bombshell

The Toronto Maple Leafs and Mitch Marner saga took another turn with a post-trade deadline bombshell that questions the star’s future. Mike DiStefano and David Morassutti give their thoughts on Marner being asked for in a trade by the Carolina Hurricanes for Mikko Rantanen but obviously didn’t get done. They discuss the impact this could have on Marner’s future going forward and other potential fallout. The Leafs continue to struggle with another loss that put into question more concerning trends for the team. To end the show, Mike and Dave provide a breakdown of how the Leafs’ new additions looked in their debuts.

  1. You guys are talking like RANTANEN is a nobody, he’s 4th among scoring leaders in the last five years, every year, behind only McDavid, McKinnon and Draisaitl, and has 100 pts in 80 career playoffs game and is a Stanley cup champion, and is way bigger than Marner at 6”4, 215l lbs. I would take RANTANEN over Mitchy all day, everyday, every minute every year. Leafs fans fall in love with their mediocre playoffs players way too much and that’s why they think they’re God’s in this market.

  2. Leafs goal differential is brutal compared to Tampa and Florida. The team is streaky streaky goaltending looks good because they’ve made 900k saves on a million shots. They lose 3 games in a row and then win 5 lose 3 win 3 lose 3.

In the playoffs it’s once again going to come down to the big guns. Can they elevate their game and play high speed, tight checking playoff hockey at a high level. If Matthews, Nylander, Marner are not contributing that way then the group is sunk.

  3. Mitch wanted too much from day one. He has a super-inflated vision of himself. Is he worth as much as Kucherov? Point? Mack? Makar? Aho? The Tkachuks? It's time to stop shackling roster development by overpaying playoff under-producers.

Whatever Brad has offered, that's the offer. Mitch can either take it or f—- off. He's a great hockey player, and the Leafs will not be as good without him. But I'm done with his "I'm the disrespected victim" attitude after he inflicted much of that upon himself several times then disappeared in the playoffs year after year. And if he leaves, he can take his whiner centre with him.

Toronto is a cosmopolitan town, but when it comes to hockey, we love our lunch pail guys who don't sleep well between losses. The purse and hat collectors can go play in LA.

  4. The Leafs got to pick it up to lose 4 games in a row during the playoffs they'll have another short season. When they are clicking, they are great.

  5. No playoff success with Mitch is a given, no playoffs without him is a good possibility. But Trev will have the cap space to improve the team, if he's up to the task. I wouldn't doubt that Mitch heads to Pittsburg.

  6. Really like the player but in the playoffs he is just to small.Bigger players just push him off the puck or give him a good hard check to take the steam out of him.Leafs need to bring up Clifford and Reaves and put them on the Marner line too show teams that if you interfere with Marner there are pipers to pay. IMO plus Marner should put on 10 to 15 pounds, just to tiny.Other than that now Marner knows Leafs dont want his big contrac andt like Marner said,I want to be a Leaf of course at the right price.8 years 103 mil.At that point im saying let him walk, but lets see what happens in the playoffs but im not holding my breathe for his future as a Maple Leaf.2025/26 season

  7. And here we go again ! What is the leafs fan bases' problem? They got the best player going and now they want to fuck with his head just in time for the playoffs. No wonder the Leafs cant win in the playoffs… they create their own problems. Why? Why? Fucking why? Maybe these assholes that keep bringing up this shit arent actually fans but just want to create problems. Bad on us true fans for taking the bait ! Anyway I'll be a fan of whomever Marner signs with… which it's looking like another team… so sad… been a fan since I saw them win the cup last time.. oh so long ago… too bad we cant have nice things…

  8. I hope Marner stays with Leafs.
H is a good team player and is developing well.
He is starting to get into his prime now so it would be a shame to lose him now.
He is a core part of the Leafs game and the success they have been having.
The Leafs are building such a good team and with new additions in Laughton and Carlo they strengthened up their weakest spot …the 3rd and 4th lines.
They now have good forwards, good defense and good goaltending.
Let them spend the next 20 games before playoffs building some chemistry and I think these 2025 playoffs are going to be really good for the Leafs.
They have a chance to make the Stanly Cup finals for first time in 58 years or at least Conference finals for first time in what… 23 years now?
And Marner will be a huge part of that.
Look what he did in 4 nations face-off.
His next 5-10 years will be his prime.
We need to keep him in Leafs now.
