  1. I like this trade for both teams.
    Both are in a retool.
Pens now have a sought after RD, they can flip him now or next year at the deadline.
Novak has term, is younger and should fit in the middle 6. 3,5m is not bad for a 27 year old that has 2x 40+ pts seasons.
Bunting gives the Preds more energy and a bit a grit, they are missing that upfront.
They can trade him next year at the deadline and get their pick back.

    Interesting trade.

  2. This trade makes no sense to me. IMO the Preds overpaid for Michael Bunting, and neither team got what they needed. The preds needs centers, the pens needs saves; until they get these tings everything else is kinda moot/irrelevant. If you don't have #1 center, or at very least strong down the center, and/or you have to hold your breath every time a shot goes on net, then you aren't contending or even competing for anything.

  3. Honestly, this must be one of the worst trades I've ever seen. So Preds gonna play without any good r-shoot D? Honestly, Luke himself is worth quite a lot. And Novak is a decent 3rd C. WTF is Trotz doing? The fans should call for his head. I'm not even a Pred fan and this made me angry

  4. sharks fan:

I think getting desharnais is fine, as long as they don't overvalue him and act like he can never be a healthy scratch if there's a younger player who needs some ice time
the bad contract is obviously a non-issue for us and all of our D prospects are lefties except for Thompson/Liljegren, so there should be a temporary opening on the right side of the 3rd pair

  5. feel like this is just a part of much larger trade I THINK, pens are going to trade luke schenn, rakell, to the leafs for one of minten/cowan, 1st and either another forward or defender, more so for cap reasons

  6. Pens fan and I like the trade. Novak could be a long term fit if he pans out and Schenn most likely gets flipped before the deadline. Bunting was decent, but very inconsistent with us.

  7. This is confusing because it is purely a hockey trade, not an asset trade. Both teams are getting something that they are lacking.

I think the Pens are keeping Novak. Slots nicely into 3C behind Crosby and Malkin.
They may keep Schenn too. The backend isn’t that reliable defensively and he will help tremendously there.

Bunting is Nashville acquiring some shift disturber, who can score which they lack. If Nashville ends up selling other pieces, Bunting can slot into that hole as he can play up and down the line up.

  8. Dubas has brought back NHL bodies in every trade to keep the roster intact so he doesn't have the young guys come up and play on a bad NHL team.

Also, 4 1sts in the next 3 seasons, 15 picks in the first 3 rounds 😉 Dubas with a great job stacking picks

  9. Is it that hard to understand? Schenn is a great option to flip so it opens up options and Novak is a young center for the 3rd line. Bunting is probably talking up a winger spot for young guys next year, Novak less so

  10. god i can’t wait for this rebuild to work out so all of the salty leaf fans will shut up about Dubas

  11. If Nashville and Pittsburgh feel like they are getting lowballed in sell-off trades it makes sense to flip player for player. Trading Bunting, Schenn, or Novak for like a 3rd round pick or less is basically giving them away.

This is a smart trade if the market is soft for all 3 guys.

  12. I think Grier is doing great in SJ. This trade is confusing, but so was the Meier trade at the time and now im so happy he made it

  13. Can Dubas flip Schenn before the deadline? If he stays home that is a sign … may be a masterstroke.

  14. Although I doubt it happens, maybe having a more prime aged center is needed for a package with buffalo because they diddnt want bunting?

  15. Guys obviously Kyle is getting more assets to send to Carolina fir when he brings in rantanen and extends him (I’m not delusional)

  16. Change of scenery. 2 teams that are bad now, but are going to try to be good next year, make a low-risk trade that could end your season on a bit of a high.

  17. No, we as penguins know we will not be good next year, now ask us again the following year and we might be changing our minds. You are correct in that we are not in a rush to trade them, but, yes they will eventually get traded

  18. Its not that confusing of a trade. Pittsburgh won it, They get Novak who will pkay a similar role to Bunting, Or maybe center the third line he's 2 years younger than bunting makes $1.5M less and is signed for an extra year. The Pens defense is atrocious Schenn is a massive upgrade if you keep him. Its also very well known a lot of contenders want Schenn someone will overpay if theyre desperate enough. Its a win, win for the Pens

  19. From a NSH fan, for the Preds this only makes sense because NSH nets an extra 1.75M in cap space, bringing them up to 9.4M in cap space for this year. It feels more like an indicator that another move is coming. NSH gets a guy who could help them out and they get essentially a 1 year trial of him in the middle 6 or can flip him as part of a deal for a bigger piece (e.g. Cozens, EP40, etc…) between the cap space the assets they have, it just seems like something is coming.

  20. Preds fan here. Lot of mixed feelings about this trade from our perspective.
The Schenn part is pretty easy: his leadership and vet presence will be missed, but from a strictly hockey perspective we are ecstatic he's no longer on the roster. On our defense that is atrocious to watch, he's by far the worst one.
As for Novak, this just seems like another overcorrection by Trotz. He decides to hang on to and sign Novak to an extension last year at the deadline when rumors were that he could've garnered a high pick (at least higher than a 4th) if we traded him. Skip to this awful year, and now Trotz trades him for a lot less. Really doesn't make a ton of sense, although Novak leaves a ton to be desired in his defensive game.

Bunting is an interesting add, and I could see it working out in strictly a bottom 6 role. Possibly with L'Heureux and Svechkov, who have played decently well this year all things considered. The money is a little much but we have plenty of space and the cap going up makes this a non-issue.
Thanks for reading if you did, and here's to hoping we land a top pick for Michael Misa.
