  1. People seem to forget that when Gretzky played, goaltending to an extent was just standing there and hoping it hit you. Ovechkin is truly unmatched

  2. Gretzky and Ovechkin have at times made life worth the effort. Was Gretzky mega fan since 80s. Didn’t want him to retire despite almost never scoring goals anymore. I was sur3 the fun was over, but I became a huge Haskell fan for a few seasons before Ovechkin stole my interest in 2007 and beyond.

  3. Interesting how by the graph, gretzky slowed down a little with age and ovechkin stays at the same pace

  4. LA shouldn't have never bought Gretzky . Lol didn't do anything for them. And he was a sore player after moving

  5. Gretz powerplay goals only 200ish and more assist than anyone has points makes Gretz way more impressive than ovi

  6. By my math, Ovi missed out on 26 goals because of all the Covid nonsense. If he misses the record by less than that, I will blame Fauci.

  7. What's really crazy is the percentage difference for the next three players in Ovi's cohort vs Gretzky. No question 99 is the best overall player, but Ovi's goals are much more impressive in the context of the scoring era and also his goal production versus his next three cohorts.
Crosby is 263 goals short of Ovi, Stamkos is 302 goals short and Malkin is 357 short. Gretzky had several players much closer.

  8. I hope Ovi doesn’t break it, but I know he will because I know Ovechkin won’t retire until he gets their record

  9. In my opinion, Ovi is all around better in everything but passing. Also his goals are way more impressive and he never had protectors but Gretzky did.

  10. Now!! do a similar moving graph comparing them by season, removing seasons stolen by lockout and highlighting seasons shortened by strike or Covid.

  11. Most goals after the age of 30:

    1) Howe -383
    2) Bucyk – 347
    3) Ovechkin – 338
    4) Esposito – 337
    5) Ratelle – 311
    6) Selanne – 305
    7) Hull – 299 (Brett)
    8) Messier – 280
    9) Jagr – 265
    10) Mullen – 258

  12. What's wild is the last few years he played, gretzky basically stopped scoring goals. Father time is, in fact, undefeated, and the curve gretzky has there is totally normal. It's remarkable that ovi's is a much straighter line

  13. Imagine how much further along Ovie would have been if he he had taken off season conditioning seriously earlier in his career.
