Hockey at Home: Episode 2 – Gretzky and Ovechkin

The next edition of #HockeyAtHome features hockey icon Wayne Gretzky and Washington Capitals superstar Alex Ovechkin in their first-ever joint sit-down interview hosted by NBC Sports’ Kathryn Tappen.

The pair discuss Ovechkin’s pursuit of The Great One’s record 894 career goals, their love for the game, the current pause of the NHL season and the state of the League. The Capitals captain, who on February 22 became the eighth member of the NHL’s 700-goal club, currently sits two goals shy of his ninth career 50-goal season – which would tie Gretzky (and Mike Bossy) for the most in League history

  1. Who loves it when the NHL makes a video with the 2 legendary legends talking and I hope Ovi passes Gretzky in Goals before his career is over

  2. If it's a lockdown or inclement weather, or air pollution, indoor stationary cycling is about as good as it gets along with some obvious upper body free weights, resistance straps.

  3. this was great to watch I'm a big fan of both players.what they have done for hockey.just want to say I wish the world the best on the bad times that are going on right now..we are all a team and if we all act together…we can beat this……..god bless

  4. anybody notice the kanker booger popping in and out of Ovi's nose….i couldn't concentrate on the conversation…..worse thing is nobody told him during the break

  5. Gretzky is super cool role model! I hope Ovechkin will do his best stay out of politics and dirty scumbag putin to become one of the greatest!

  6. The thing I really appreciate about Gretzky is how he praises the younger guys. I’m a big NBA guy but I’m so tired of the 90s guys saying Lebron or Curry or Durant wouldn’t be as good in their era. You’ll never hear Gretzky say that about Ovi or Crosby or McDavid

  7. Ovechkin will NOT break Gretzky's career goal record. Ovechkin does not possess the same passion and commitment that gretzky had to the game and Ovechkin's personality will not allow other influences to dictate his judgement about his career. Besides the pandemic causing delays to his performance pace, Karma could cause a huge injury to him and he doesn't even participate in All-Star games anymore. Keep in mind too that Gretzky broke that 801 goal record 2 years YOUNGER than Ovechkin is NOW and Gretzky was NEVER pursuing the record, only adding to it for 6 more seasons. Ovechkin will be doing the total opposite: trying to catch that record at the very end of his career so there is a difference. I think if Ovechkin had career 830 goals and he needed to play 2 more seasons to break the record nearing 40, he would not play just to satisfy the hockey world. It just comes down to PERSONALITY, and i think he is more indifferent to the record than the pressure from others wanting him to break it. Besides being filthy rich I can't see him playing 4 or 5 more years just to please others. Sorry folks, i just don't see it.

  8. As Ovechkin inches closer to Gretzkys goal record there’s a chance he could pass it but I worry about the biggest threat to Ovechkin now, the random chance circumstance of life’s karma. There’s a million difference ways Ovechkin could reach it, however there are also a million different ways he could not. he could get a career threatening injury, get Covid which damages his lungs, get an illness, something happen outside hockey forces retirement. Many different things could happen and it’s these risks of life that prevented Lemieux or even Orr from obtaining more points. Let’s see how it progresses. The biggest question one must ask is does Ovechkin have the same LIFE LUCK Gretzky had? It would be a shame for Ovechkin to come this far just to have it all collapse by a setback but barring that he should break the record.
