I’d love to hear how Mike and his staff view the ROI on a few of these trades. Picks are speculative and he might end up spending years trying to replace guys like Granny, Wallman, and Zetterlund. And given the fit with the other guys and their production, I just don’t see it.
The return for zetts was completely underwhelming considering the trades going around the league (25 y/o, 20G, RFA). Laughton got a 1st+ a good prospect. Completely baffling trade. I would've liked to see a RHD AT LEAST. Not more 3-4th liners. We tried this already this year and we have a 26th ranked PK.
I’m sorry but when tf are we going to add TALENT?! Celebrini and Will and Tiffoli need help. Walman was a steal and he could assist and score. I know his form fell off after he came back from injury but we need seasoned talent to help the kids. We can’t just stock pile draft picks and then not sign a major player. A team full of kids can’t win anything. WE NEED PROVEN VETERANS! Stop giving away good players for bums and picks. Georgiev to back up Asky? Foolish. I like you Grier but you doing too much of nothing
I hate this trade. Aren’t we supposed to be obtaining young veterans to work our way out of the rebuild. I feel like this is starting over. Zetts was one of our most productive players.
Hey Mike, I like what you were able to accomplish this season. The commitment to build via the draft (primarily) is something the Sharks never fully committed to until you took over and for my money its the best and most sustainable way to build a contender for the long haul. When you took over all those years of success had ravaged our prospects cupboard and because we were so competitive for so long the emphasis was always on supporting that core group to make a run and man did we make a few!
Now that we are committed to rebuilding via the draft I love the investment in our front office and the focus on finding talent, drafting more carefully and developing more completely. Now our cupboard is stuffed full of exciting and interesting prospects. I look forward to seeing how all those young men develop and most excited to see which ones can emerge as diamonds in the rough like a Dan Boyle, Justin Braun, Jake Middleton, Marc Eduard Vlassic, Yvgeni Nabakov or Joe Pavelski.
Because of your success in accruing picks and prospects starting with this season we are going to see 1-2 prospects vie for a spot on the Sharks every year I expect. Just as you said earlier you wanted the young guys to earn their way to the Sharks and compete hard to force their way onto the Sharks. It looks to me like we are now at the beginning of that era for the Sharks thanks to you and your team in the front office so thank you Mike.
I always admired your game when you were in Boston and wished you could be a Shark so I was very happy when you became a Shark and so it made me very proud indeed to see another one of our own come back this time to take the helm and guide us back to contend again for the ultimate prize. You were a good Shark Mike and you are a great GM already in my biased opinion. You have accomplished much in a short time and I am excited to see the fruits of you and your teams labors in the seasons to come.
I wish you nothing but, the best for you and your family.
Comparing Ostapchuk to Lowry seems like a reach, Lowry had 23 points and played the full season in the NHL in his rookie season (a year younger than Ostapchuk too) while Ostapchuk has 4 points in 43 games and got sent down.
Either Grier can see something nobody else can or Staios way oversold him on Ostapchuk. Throwing Robbins AND a fourth in as well makes me think it's the latter. Especially headscratching when it was a sellers market and Zetterlund was an RFA and Grier has done well besides this season.
I just wanna know if the answer was "no, we will not trade Zetterlund" but now all of sudden there was a trade and a questionable one? Was Zac really the best big, tough, fast player we could've gotten?
As a fan, I feel betrayed. What a bad asset management, and bad return on a trade. Staios must be laughing right now. Please consider stepping down Mike, this is unexcusable
In reality, we should have kept Timo or Hertl as part of the rebuild but I bought in to the plan and there have been some good moves that I credit MG for. I think we should’ve kept Walman as well but I guess I can stomach that bc of our pipeline. Zetterlund makes ZERO SENSE. We need to keep some Vets to help the kids, Dude was 25 yrs old and in his prime. Nothing said will make it make sense
Well, what I like about GMMG is that he can explain really clear even very strange moves like Zett. Grier, I still trust in you and want to see next steps now with great Ds to be acquired in summer
Many of yall are so short sighted and impatient. Zetty deal doesn’t really make sense to us now since most of us know nothing about Zach besides his stats. Not too long ago when Timo Meier was traded, we fans eviscerated GMMG why we got this dude named Fabian Zetterlund who sucked in his first 20 games for us. And now we are crying because we think the 2nd pick is the only real value for Zetty. And look how we are reacting now Zetty is traded. Grier has earned the right as a talent evaluator and everyone needs to CHILL! I am going to miss the chemistry between Zetty and Eky and I think Zetty plays the right way. But even so I believe we saw his ceiling as an undersized scoring third liner on a playoff team. I’m more curious as to what this means for Bystedt. Is this move to breed competition to the future of the 3rd C, or something they see missing in Bystedt. Regardless it’s all about this off season. If all the assets we had couldn’t pry one of the young Dmen rumored available…. maybe the asking price will go down in the off season and we will be able to grab a talent there. Gonna miss all the boys gone during this fire sale! But it’s crazy to be mad at GM for the overall moves he has made thus far.

There is no chance that was the best possible return for zetterlund out there

Man, that Zetterlund deal is brutal. Scott Laughton got a first and solid prospect, and this is all Grier could get?
I loved the moves. Sold high on Walman, I felt like Zetterlund could have fetched more but overall I'm thrilled to see how the rebuild is going.
Schaefer here we come
Horrible trades zetts for nothing is insane… walman for nothing… right direction he says….
Cold blooded Zetterlund trade but hopefully for a better future, at least leave us With Ferraro.
People in the comments acting like there isn't an offseason in 18 games. We can trade draft picks for players and sign free agents.

P.s. What does your brother think about Maclin?
Go Sharks!

The melodramatics from sharks fans about Zetterlund is so immature. We're in a rebuild. Suck it up or cry on social media like 12 year olds.

WTF trading Zetterlund
Worst move Grier made today was sending Zetterlund, but at least he isn’t Don Sweeney.
