  1. Yzerman, once considered a genius. Know he is just an old crazy man talking to himself in the broom closet.

  2. Red Wing fan here.

I was of the opinion before the deadline that Detroit needed to make a move for a steady D-man for the third pair. If you can't get that you either stand pat or try to move Tarasenko or Alex Lyon for picks. This trade for me is a nothing burger. It wasn't a move to help the team make the playoffs and it also doesn't get them any futures. It's befuddling.

I don't think it's a bad trade, it's just "why at the deadline?" You could do this in the off season and no one bats an eye.

For the record, I didn't expect the Wings to make the playoffs this year. I expected them to be slightly worse than last year with Walman, Ghostisbere, and Perron gone. That expectation has held true all season.

My feeling has been that this off season is the true test of Yzerman as a GM. If he can't address the top six center problem or the defensive depth problem before next season starts, it's time to move on. They must make the playoffs next spring. Full Stop.

He will have the cap space come July 1st and it's time to make the splash. You have Larkin, Debrincat, Raymond, Seider, and Edvinsson as your core, it's time to give them the tools to do something.

  3. Im pretty sure most of us Red Wings fans are losing faith in our front office. Trading a fan favorite in Walman as a salary dump with a 2nd round pick was the last straw for me. I think hes been above average at drafting players but the pro scouting is absolutely horrendous. Every year the free agents we sign are awful. I might give him one more offseason but if nothing changes hes gotta go.

  4. I’m a Wings fan and I don’t even know what’s going on with the Yzerplan any more 😂

  5. Don't really have anything to argue about this trade bc it means very little, but I do think the whole "why do the red wings have soooo many goalies" thing from the past few years has been way over blown. Campbell and Cossa were never meant to play in the NHL outside of an emergency. Lyon and Husso were under contract, but Husso had been injured for all of last season and was likely unclear about this season, so they needed another NHL caliber goalie in their stable, which turned out to be the right move since Husso spent most of the year in the AHL before getting moved.

  6. A perfect S.f.Y signing that very few of us understand .

Okay, how about the trade being about two things?
1: Velano, there is no greater faith in him, trade him for Smith, Craig (C).
Smith a sandpaper player who has made little more noise than Velano and a saved cap of 1.275/Mil.

Mrazek, will be RW tendem next year if S.f.Y does not sign any more goalies. There is a very strong belief that 3 goalies is the new META for the NHL of RW due to injuries and why not. Mrazek has been better than Leon this year and then Mrazek is on a worse team on paper should be given.

So the conclusion is that S.f.Y manages to make a deal that on paper makes the team slightly better and I mean slightly better. S.f.Y has done this for the last 6 years and it doesn't look promising to keep/take a place in the playoffs this year either.

Also, it's very possible that Leon will be sent on, his cap is very good, although the question is whether Sf.Y can do anything more? S.f.Y is very invisible to the league's GMs…

  7. I’m so tired of being mediocre man. We’ve dropped 4 straight games without a single point. We just got rid of carrying 3 goalies to now carry 3 goalies again. Except instead of Husso, Mrazek has an extra year on his deal. Why? Have we gotten better somehow? Doesn’t feel like it to me.

  8. Sounds like it had nothing to do with making the playoffs and they were just getting a goalie with term because the goalie market stinks this summer.

  9. I've seen Cossa play for the Griffins several times in the past couple seasons in Grand Rapids… he's very not bad… he's a little beyond half-decent… he's also very consistent…

  10. You guys are so stupid that you don’t understand the Yzerplan, I would explain it to you, but I don’t-understand it either

  11. I like getting rid of Veleno he had every opportunity here even played on the 1st line briefly with Larkin and Raymond but just couldn’t produce. Not sure how I feel about bringing in Mrazek though especially with another year remaining on his deal. We already have enough mid goalies

  12. Lifelong wings fan and stevie y is my fav player of all time but my god this makes no sense. Stevie as much as i love ya you are terrible at trade deadlines and even worse at free agency….. guess we gave up on the payoffs once again….. gonna drink myself to sleep tonight

  13. as a red wings fan i do not understand this trade mrazek was so bad when he was first in detroit and yzerman doesnt appear to be doing anything else with 10 mil in cap space i hope he isnt banking on a FA in the summer

  14. LOL what a trade! A goalie that hasn't been good in 6 years and can't buy a win in Chicago. Keep believing in that yzerplan stevies little sheep's! FIRE YZERMAN!

  15. This is the second time Steve fooled everyone by thinking that one trade was for a bigger trade. 😂 20-year rebuild, let's go!!

  16. The criticism is that he didn’t mortgage the future because there’s no future.

Calling Cossa the goalie of the future, when he’s struggling with minor league shooters is a stretch.

  17. Detroit would have been objectively better if Kane coming back from his original injury didn’t work out. He gave them enough of a shot in the arm for Yzerman to think that this team could contend. When in reality the draft lottery rules were changed to favor bad teams and Yzerman took they as a signal to go all in on bum UFA signings and missed out on several future 1Cs at the top of two drafts in a row.

Imagine this team with Fantilli, Celebrini or even Bedard. Instead we’re gonna draft another one of Kris Draper’s favorite depth pieces 15th overall and then talk about them for the next five years until they take the same exact track that Kasper is on and where Danielson will be.

Dark days for Wings fans and it kinda reminds of the 2006-2012 period of overhyping prospects. With guys like Smith, Kindl, Sproul and Ouelette getting severely overrated because of their junior success and never really translating to the NHL.

  18. Wings need to Fire their Pro Scouts. Any FA / trades they've done have all be crap. (besides Debrincat, but he wanted to be here). This offseason may be the last for Yzerman if he doesn't improve the team this time. Can't keep kicking the can with fillers.
