Expensive for sure but totally worth the shot-nobody has center depth in the west we do now. Of course ya have to at least get to Finals or resign him to get equal value-but lets go! I still think we need at least 1 more dman & if Casey gets that-fine.But id prefer to keep him,& give up 2nd or something for 3rd pair guy. But you are maybe 1 more dman from at least favorite to get to WCF…maybe not quite if Dallas gets Rantanen-but i love our chances now
Brock Nelson is a great player and makes our whole team much more formidable. The future may be a little less clear with this trade, but the team got much better right now. Our cup window is only gonna last so long, so you have to strike while the iron is hot. I don't get the negative feelings toward this trade at all. Why would you not want Brock Nelson right now? We didn't give up anything that is gonna really matter for the next 2 years. So if we can resign nelson at a similar price, we get 2 more solid cup contender years. Without Nelson, our Center depth is not what it needs to be to win a cup. With him, our team is about as complete as it gets. Mac, Lehky, Necas | Nelson, Val, Drouin, Kivi, Kelly, LOC, Wood, Colton, Mitts. That's a very good lineup of forwards that can compete with any other forward core in the league. For D, we're solid. And we're solid in goal. Without a doubt, this is the move that we needed to complete our team. If we end up getting 1 more upgrade on D, that's just icing on the cake.

I think it's important to keep fans feeling like every year you have a shot, I'm all for "if you win a cup who cares" but it's never fun to win 2 cups then not be competitive for the next 10-20 yrs …… there is a balance too.
Not the biggest fan of the front office since Sakoc left but i get having 2 of the best players in world in their prime pushes them to make more "win now" moves then I think one team shoild make.
O'Reilly on the Avs beating out Duchene and Rantanen on the stars to get a cup would be quite the timeline.

An Isles fan here. You guys are going to love Brock! He's the ultimate pro. Steady and dependable in his defensive end, as well as a silky smooth offensive play driver. His goal scoring is down partly due to the Isles team as a whole having an awful power play. But his underlying metrics are basically similar to his last 3 seasons. And not only is he good on the ice, but he's also a great guy in the locker room. He will be missed!

Avs are going to suck for a while no matter how you slice it after this window closes. I’m all for what they’re doing and try and get Nate and Cale a couple more cups before all is said and done. And maybe when there’s no more depth left and the window has closed, they trade a 32 year old Makar for three first rounders to a team who’s in their window and hit the jackpot. You just don’t get a core like they have very often and have to make the best of it.
My thoughts on the trades so far this season. Wedgey for Annunen. Def win for Avs. Blackwood for Georgiev and Kovalenko. Win for the Avs. Lindgren trade to soon to tell. Nelson trade still figuring it out.
Having center depth of MacKinnon, Nelson, Mittlestadt and Kiviranta(or LOC or whoever) would be sick because I think Mittlestadt would thrive in a 3rd line center role, I do agree with AJ that it seems like the writing is on the wall for Mittlestadt now. They can move him out for a cheaper, probably similarly producing 3C so it wouldn't shock me at all. I do like this trade though.
Hyped about the win and the trade cause hopefully this means we keep Casey as a 3c like we wanted and kept saying, keep him at 3c and then hopefully the pressure comes off and he lights it up next year, getting his best friend (Lingdren) is only gonna help raise his confidence and get his game up.

Having three centers is not a problem. Mitts might not be a prototypical 3C, but now the Avs can roll 3 balanced lines and Drury can be a sparkplug 4C. Avs are way deeper with just the Nelson move. Trading Mitts would be a big risk.
