A Third Straight Winnipeg Jets Loss Reinforces The Point: SWING BIG At The Trade Deadline

The Winnipeg Jets have hit a bit of a rut right before the trade deadline…and that may not be the worst thing in the world. What went wrong against the struggling Isles who cling to playoff hopes? Is this game a bellwether for what continues to ail Winnipeg at a high level? Is it something the Jets need to address via trade, or can it be fixed internally? How big of a swing does Winnipeg need to make? Is Arniel truly the guy to help Winnipeg bust the playoff hump, or will his own idiosyncrasies put the team at a disadvantage?

  1. Harrison, I hate to break it to you bud, but Chevy will never swing big enough where he has to give up prospects. Winnipeg is not like Vegas where they can empty the cupboards of prospects at trade at the deadline, and then attract lots of free agents in the future. Not many players want to come to Winnipeg, so what the Jets drafted is pretty much all they are going to have for the future. True North knows this, and they also know that if they don't have the prospects to stop them from being a bottom feeder in the future, fickle Winnipeg fans will stop going to games and it will effect their bottom line. I could be wrong, but will be extremely surprised if Chevy makes a trade that involves giving up a decent prospect.

As for Arniel not wanting to piss anyone off. Makes sense. He finally got another break and doesn't want to screw it up. I also think Chipman sticks his hands in things way too much and for the most part the Winnipeg coaches are more puppets than anything else. The best thing the jets could do is hire a president of hockey operations. I was kind of hoping they would have given Barry Trotz that job since he expressed that he wanted to be in management. Joel Quenneville is also being reinstated this year and as controversial of a hire he would be, I really think he could help a team.

  2. Their promise to implement analytics was a flat out lie. If Jets blow another Rd 1 out of loyalty to Stanley and the 1st line no one will ever believe this team again. #GoJetsGo!
