It’s a good position to be in – lots of draft picks, money to spend, loads of young prospects…but you’re thinking what I’m thinking; when is the time to stop accumulating assets and start pushing the “win” button. Probably in 2026-27.
Simon Nemec or Brandt Clarke
Picks are nice but I’m gonna miss Walman for sure
Grier is a wizard!!!! Incredible!
As always an awesome podcast! I love the return for Walman and GMMG's asset management. What else can be said that you did not already say?
GMMG gets Leo Sahlin Wallenius, Carl Burgland and a first round 2026 (top 12 protected) pick for? Not a bag of pucks, but a used puck! lol!
He got Blackwood for a sixth round pick, added almost never used Giavanni Smith and a 2027 5th round pick and turned that into Alrxander Georgiev, Nikolai Kovalenko, a 2026 second round pick and conditional 2025 fifth round pick (which turns into a fourth if he plays 30 games (has played 28) , wins 28 games (has 22 wins) and the Avalanche make it to the conference finals).
Traded a cap dump (Mikael Granlund) in the EK trade and Cody Ceci (acquired with a 2025 third round pick) for Ty Emberson) and received a 2025 first round pick along with a 2025 fourth round conditional pick (becomes a third if Dallas makes it to the Stanley Cup Finals).
So for a cap dump, a bag of pucks, a prospect, an unused redundant player and throw in some mid and late round picks GMMG got:
1) Our current starting goalie (Georgiev)
2) A solid middle six rookie winger (Kovalenko)
3) A grade B prospect (Burgland)
4) Two first round picks
5) One second round pick
6) A fourth and a fifth round pick (both of which can be one round higher)
Not a bad piece of asset management! The future is teal!
Boy the Cuda are getting stacked. Adding Burgland means GMMG has added four wingers/centers to the Cuda in a couple weeks:
1) Pavol Regenda (6 foot 4 212 pounds) LW
2) Walker Duehr (6 foot 2 210 pounds) RW
3) Patrick Giles (6 foot 5 216 pounds) C/RW
4) Carl Burgland (6 foot 2 207 pounds) C (shoots L)
That's a lot of beef! I think a couple of those four might be playing with the Sharks. My best guess is Duehr gets the first callup.
I agree that GMMG is getting ready to make a big move and I also agree the chances are it is in the offseason. My question is about Kunin. The Sharks held him out so I assume he will be gone today.
