wow. i'm a Rangers fan and i hate the Devils, but that sucks. Jack Hughes going down for the rest of the season when the Devils were looking like a real contender this year is bad for hockey.

they can't win without Hughes. No way….what a shame for the Devils. That news was a long time coming. He should probably bulk up as well…he looks skinny as could be. Does he even weigh 170? He is an elusive skater, but he hangs onto the puck up and down the ice and someone outweighing him by 30+ pounds is bound to crush him on occasion.

Greenway has been an okay addition when healthy so that’s a decent and realistic extension. Now we need to trade Pegula for Packers fans so they can run the Sabres like Green Bay.
Honestly you treat it like you would with jack we aren't going far in the playoffs but our younger players need experience.

Add players that have term beyond this season. I know they aren’t going to win the cup but I think it’s important for this group to make they playoffs, which they are currently in by 6 points… you have to add. they also don’t have a first round pick unless they crap out and move into the bottom 10 of the league so

When Nico is out, the Devils fall apart. When Jack is out, they soldier on…Pick up Cozens for 2C and Boeser at wing. Can retain both in the offseason and start retooling now, rather than this summer.

Feel bad for NJ and Jack and Timo but this is another reason why paying a core with no proof of winning 2 rounds in the playoffs can be foolish. I know NJ has had many injury issues which could in theory be the reason they have not. NJ did win 1 round in 23 so at least they had that going for them.
The leafs, kings, wild, preds, caps, pens, sens, ducks, wings and of course buff show my point off over and over. Having your core does not matter if the rest of the team is not good enough. Every team I just named has some really good players on it I like though. Good luck to all of them winning 2 rounds or more.
If anyone says back to me about having to reach the min salary cap that is very easy to reach in trading for cap dumps or only going for 1 year contract players that you can realistically trade for picks or prospects. You get the overall team good enough that it wins at least 1 round before a team does a Toffoli type contract.
If any of the teams I just named win 2 rounds or more by all means they can tell me I do not know what I am talking about. The other teams who will not will still show I do.
Nash has not won 1 round in 6 years about to be 7 and they had the option not to waste resources until they had proof the team was better first.

j Hughes going down is awful for us, but earlier in the season he was not scoring but we were still winning with lots of goals. It can be done. Our D is solid. I hope fits makes some big moves, but that’s the rub. Idk if NJD has anything worth trading for what we need.
I’m very sad.
Devils fan here. They are not winning the Cup this year (but what if they do and Hughes doesn’t play a game, does he get a ring? Moot point). Logically, I don’t know that it makes sense to be buyers. But in my heart, the team and its fans have suffered for so long that a playoff run might lift the spirits of fans and players, and perhaps other free agents or players with NTCs who might find New Jersey an attractive destination.
I don’t know why Greenway left my team, but I wonder if one of the five teams is the Minnesota wild.

Good for Greenway to get that 5 team NTC, that should be enough to make sure he can't get traded to a worse team – poor Buffalo.
Question – for trades that involve a 3rd party to retain cap, like Detroit in the Gourde transaction, does the 3rd party actually pay the salary? So in Detroit's situation, are they essentially buying a 4th round pick for $1.2 million?
I knew it was nonsense to bring Vrana back. One important goal all season. This is the time of Dubois, strome , Chicken, Ovechkin and Wilson plus goalies they aren’t paying. Caps can win cup. They may win the cup!
I thought Matthews getting to 400 goals was a quick formality. Nope. Actually I did not, but most did. He never follows a great goal season with another. He might not hit 400 this year!! The all time record he has spoken of! Jeez. Ovechkin never. Like Gretzky said. The first 500 are the easy ones. After that it gets tough. I predict Matthews retires with 587.
