Hunter and Patrick give their early thoughts on the two trades that Kyle Dubas orchestrated on Wednesday night in this special bonus edition of the show. They discuss how Tommy Novak will be a big help at center, plus how Kyle Dubas continues his vision of making them a younger team for the foreseeable future.

I don’t understand the trade like this don’t get pens younger like is he rebuilding or he’s trying push playoff plz sully and sid cause those player are more playoff team type player
Malkin – Novak – Tomasino
Feel kind of sick about Bunts being moved. Really like the guy. I hope Novak & Schenn helps stabilize things. Novak's shooting percentage over the years is outstanding.
Idk how people dont like the luke schenn addition. They finally get someone who will clear the front of the net and not afraid to throw his weight around
These smaller trades could honestly be the way.. With the cap going up, im starting to think we should keep the first line together going into next year and roll with it. Goaltending should probably be priority #1, maybe a younger forward, bring up the wilkes boys, etc
If I don’t see dubas getting young player or pick like he say before or after deadline then he lying and not doing his job
So funny. I always post comments before watching the video. Then I'll watch knowing it's inevitable Hunter & I will have a similar take. It seems even our gf's think alike – as my gf loves Bunting & was almost in tears when I told her they moved him.
Super solid trade
You guys are animals 🙌👑
THE best Pens podcast! 🏆
I like this trade. Bunting was okay but honestly I thought he was kind of underwhelming, and Novak is lowkey very good. He's having kind of a down season so he was a prime "buy low" candidate. And Schenn is fine, essentially they just swapped Desharnais for Schenn, and truthfully I would take Schenn over Desharnais.
Too much emphasis on analytics these days. Analytics don't measure heart or desire. Defense got older, and Bunting made the power play better. C+ trade at best. Not thrilled.
Kyle Dubas is total garbage.
Dubas is incompetent.
Lemieux to FSG. Pens don't even post You tube highlights and they deleted their history. YIKES.
Craig Patrick and Jim Rutherford to Dubas is YIKES.
I get you guys are trying to be positive…But come on. If there's a big market for players like Schenn, why were the Pens able to get him (+ Novak) for Bunting and a 4th lol. Let's be honest, no one wanted Luke Schenn. If he had real value or if playoff teams LOVED that kind of guy, the Preds would have just traded him this deadline for a 3rd round pick by himself. He has another year on his deal so he's not a rental, which teams like.
I broke it down like this: Bunting for Novak is pretty much a wash. Bunting might be a tiny little bit better, but not really. So the Pens got Schenn for a 4th round pick. While that's something, he'll be another year older next year (36), so he may get flipped for a 5th or 6th at best.
Thanks for the update, let’s go pens 🐧🐧🐧🐧🐧
I love these trades. Tommy Novak the way his analytical numbers are and what he does as a third line center, he reminds me a lot of Nick Bonino. I am not comparing the two, but that is who he reminds me of in terms of what he does on the ice. As for Luke Schenn, I have always liked him. Going off what Pat said in addition to his two Stanley Cups, this is a guy who has skated in over 1000 NHL games, so he brings a lot of experience and the Penguins have a lot of young defenseman coming up, so having a guy like Schenn in addition to the other veteran guys will help.
I am curious to see where Schenn plays at. Does he slot into the third pair with Vladislav Kolyachonok? I think that would be a great partner for him. He could learn a lot from a guy who skated in over 1000 NHL games and has two cups as well, but the d pairs are going to shaken up, because all of us know that Matt Grzelcyk is on his way out, so who plays with Karlsson then? Does Owen Pickering come back up, because of PO Joseph being injured?
I'm getting tired of seeing Mike Sullivan chewing gum on the bench.
I like the moves overall. I think it's ironic that two guys Kevin, Luke from Philly who were enemies and are now family. Thanks guys!!👍🏻👍🏻
Interesting..what does it mean for Hayes and glass if Novak plays center?
Great analysis boys! Thorough and inciteful.
Not a huge fan of losing Bunting.
Love Dubas, but this move is balls. Will withhold judgment until the deadline.
Novak is US Born!
I like the move if schenn is flipped before the deadline, he won’t have the same value in the offseason. Dubas needs to shut up about leadership we already have enough.
Another underrated aspect of this deal: Karlsson likely gets dealt before next season. That opens up a spot for Brunicke. But do we immediately slide him into the top 4? Schenn allows that flexibility to keep Brunicke on the 3rd pair until he’s ready for the top 4, hopefully by the deadline so they can move Schenn. Plus he’s just a great person and professional. I’m sure that’ll rub off on the younger guys
