Steven Stamkos Hits a New Low with the Nashville Predators

In a season where seemingly everything has gone wrong for the Nashville Predators, Steven Stamkos has been held off the scoresheet in 13 straight games – the longest such streak in his 18-year NHL career. We attempt to identify the cause of Stamkos’ slump and determine what, if anything, can be done for him to right the ship this season. In more positive news, we discuss the Predators’ signing of 2023 fourth-round pick Joey Willis to a three-year, entry-level contract and preview Tuesday’s game against the Boston Bruins.

  1. Frank Ceravalli during the Preds-Rangers game: ' The worst(NHL) game I have ever seen.'
Not necessarily a big fan of that guy but in this instance I think the quote speaks for itself.
Passionate fans in NY actually paid to see this joke of a game. I dont care if Bruno is Barry's guy.
This shitshow gotta stop. Drastic measures gotta be taken. Professional athletes cant show up for 2 full periods and look like that.

  2. Nice one ladies, hey I'll just say for all the struggles and forgettable season, it registers for me that Stamkos is struggling–this is probably not his finest moment in his career (probably his worst), and honestly, man I hate to say it but that's a reflection on coaching, You can see it in the body language–the untimely penalties–it's not great to watch and that is a far cry from watching him as player on Tampa where I rarely think you saw this–if ever. I like Bruno–he was a player here and I know loyalty is a hard line in sports (sometimes not-ha) but these last few games coming out of the 4 Nations break have been bowling shoe ugly. I hesitate to say you boot Bruno right now, only because what is that going to do anyway for this team? I'm not sure it's going to change a whole lot. I think AFTER the season, that might be the time. This team has been awful–but to reflect your points earlier this season should it be as a whole "THIS" bad (I don't think so–uniquely different situation here where it's more than one issue)—and yes there are some clear things that need to be addressed personnel and roster wise (both in the draft, trades, and free agency). I do think clearly, a change is probably certainly coming here one way or the other!

  3. We do not have forwards remotely close to Brayden Point, or Nikita Kucherov. Even Brandon Hagel is younger and outproducing Forsberg by a margin. So there IS a talent issue. We don’t need to pretend. Stamkos played wing in Tampa because for one they had/have the depth, but also because he has slowed down over recent years. Stamkos was beat out by Cirelli. This, his age, and his poor analytics were all signs of decline. There were always skeptics about Trotz signing him.

  4. If it takes a team of 30-35 year old vets years to learn a system, then what are we doing? We had a hot streak last year to sneak into the playoffs, with a hard checking, overachieving team that was fun to watch. From all accounts it looks like Trotz is gonna run it back next year with the same coach and core. ☠️

  5. Edit: apparently they didn't like being called out

Honestly i think the vets, who have earned their retirement contracts already, are just playing relaxed hockey in a washed season. They know just as well as we do that going on a tear right now will only hurt the team. Even on successful teams weve seen in the past on the Preds and around the league how vets find another gear going towards and in the playoffs. They're human, they're prone to showing up to work on their heels when it doesn't matter just like we are. As long as they actually show up and put in the effort when it matters thats fine, I'm perfectly ok with that, and for the majority of this season until now the effort was there, so I have faith they will be back next year . Until then I'm not looking a gift horse in the mouth
