Should Canucks try to deal Elias Pettersson before deadline?

Should the Canucks try to deal Elias Pettersson before the trade deadline on Friday? What makes Brock Boeser so appealing as a trade candidate? TSN Director of Scouting Craig Button joins SC with Jay Onrait with guest host Jennifer Hedger to discuss what Vancouver should look to do at the deadline.

  1. what we need to do is pay Pettersson 13 Million dollars a year so he can score 0 goals 0 assists and 0 points in playoffs while not caring about the team half the time

  2. The price for Pettersen has gone down too low, unless some team loves him warts and all. Bad contract $ and term will make Canucks eat some salary.

  3. Pettersson is worth waiting on he might not help the team this season but if he’s back to normal after a good offseason of training then it’d be stupid to trade him but 🤷‍♂️

  4. A lot of people in the comments have played EA Sports games all their lives. How do you trade a wildly underachieving 11.6M player? Who is taking that contract and for what? As a cap dump? Who has that much cap for the next 7 years and who would be willing to eat that much and send the Canucks back something the fans wouldn't mutiny over? Okay, so maybe we give up Lekkerimaki and a 1st. Maybe that gets it done and we get back a $5 contract for a guy who is doing next to nothing and is probably a liability, or we're retaining half, on top of the sweetener. This is why fans shouldn't be GMs. They're too emotional, too reactionary and sometimes, at worst, boil everything down to their own prejudices. The best case scenario is that Boeser is moved, they get a power forward who can skate for their top 6, and Pettersson finds a player he has chemistry with and rebounds. I'm as frustrated as anyone with EP40's offensive performance. But he hasn't hurt the team defensively whatsoever, and no one is taking on that contract unless there's a sweetener or 2, and another bad contract for a much older player coming back.

  5. I’m not a Canucks fan, so I’m just as happy to see him stay there with that contract…. I still can’t believe that they gave him that much money for one season

  6. they wont' be able to trade him unless they eat 50% of his contract. I agree to wait until after the deadline, but definitely trade him before his no move clause kicks in.

  7. Trading Petey would be ridiculous. The Hockey Guy did a great breakdown of the Canucks situation and he’s saying basically everything I’ve been saying. We need to keep him and hope he gets back to what he is.

  8. If we trade him now we lose BIG TIME. Should never have signed him when he had already shown he was a sensitive guy with head issues. Also WHY TF would we trade him now after we got rid of Miller for him? Makes no sense. We are stuck with him for better or worse.

  9. Trading Petterson would be a mistake, alot of the time everyone gets too impatient and regret their decisions later.

  10. No you don't trade him. You give him one month to bounce back next season, starting with his conditioning when he shows up to camp. If he doesn't perform in that timeframe you either buy him out or send him back to Sweden. Also bag skate him until he agrees to terminate his contract.

  11. NJD lost Jack Hughes for the season, It wouldn’t surprise me if they came knocking on Allvin’s door looking for Pettersson and Boeser 😱
