The Colorado Avalanche got a jump start on the trade deadline season and made a deal with the New York Rangers for defenseman Ryan Lindgren and forward Jimmy Vesey. Lindgren is the big name in the deal, and his drop in production has been well discussed. But will a change of scenery be just what he needs to get back to his production from a few years ago? The Avalanche think so.

I wanted Kakko out of the Rangers. 😔
Can we make a real move already…
You guys are missing one KEY component that this move brings….. Sandpaper!! GRIT!!!! net front presence on the defensive side.
The picks don’t mean a thing. The Avs had 2 2nds and 2 4ths.
This team lacks physicality and both guys bring it
You debated after the Mikko trade whether or not management should talk to the players beforehand. In the case of trading Mikko, absolutely not, you can't put those guys in an impossible situation like that. In this case, yes. I would be willing to bet that they did go talk to the current Avs players who know these guys if they thought they would be a good fit in the room or not.
This trade is likely one of a couple of moves that they are working on. I am guessing that they are trying to add another right side D as well as a middle 6 forward. I don't know that 2C is in the cards mid season, but maybe someone like Donato who would elevate the third line even more and then with Drury on the fourth to really roll out a solid bottom 6. Lindgren is being brought in to solidify the third pair of the D. They don't need high point production from him, they need solid PK and quality minutes. If he's an upgrade on the DeHaan/Kyllington/Middleton experiment on the third pair and can take 1-2 mins per game of PK mins away from Makar and Toews then this is a win.
The Avs needed some experience and guys who will speak up and get everyone on the same page. The team always had talent but their lack of leadership was sinking this team. This is a move to fix that.
The Sam Girard – Ryan Lindgren comparison is rather odd, I must say. Never would I consider those two comparable. Thats kinda the point of the trade, to NOT get another Sam Girard type. Someone a bit more sturdy in front of the net. Shaggy here is a bit too much focused on defensemen point totals.
From what I know of Lindgren , he’s a Defensive D , that’s hard to play against, and hits hard plus he’s nasty! To me he was playing way too much in NY and that whole team has been super bad this year! I really believe that if this goes the way they think he’s a top 4 D they got for almost nothing! Don’t be surprised if they re-sign him to a 3Y/10Million $ extension within a couple of weeks PSd don’t forget he was a top 2 D that got far in the playoffs for a couple of years, like I said he played way too much in NY
5 min in feels like a dad trying to explain the trade to his his young son shaggy.
Shaggy made me go look. Yes, Lindgren is only two inches taller than Sammy. But he's 25 pounds heavier…
It's the change of scheme that makes for these startling improvements.
And sometimes, well, it just doesn't work.
Only one way to find out which….
You're only getting closer to trading Ross Colton for Conor Sheary, seriously. So half the roster has been changed since the beginning of the season
I can’t believe I write this, I love this trade. Lindgren solid d man and Vesey was too often passed-by the NYR coach. When he played, he was good. Like it, for once GM did a good job.
Sounds to me, you guys have not watched many Rangers games over the last three plus years, otherwise you would be more enthusiastic at least about Lindgren, more physical than Girard. He can stand a hit not like little Sammy.
"Lindgren is another Sam Girard"? Good Lord, SVD needs go back to playing with his kids. Or watch more film. Dumbest take in the history of this podcast. If you can't think of anything intelligent to say . . . just be quiet.
I was pretty upset with the Avs moves at goaltender, and since the beginning of the year I had entertained the idea that they needed to trade MIkko before he walked… Seeing now that Spencer knight was on the market, and I know Seth Jones and Mikko are VERY different players and contracts. But we gave up on Juice, and Spencer Knight a 23 year old goalie thats looked pretty good was out there? Instead this trade and the Mikko trade feels like shuffling chairs. This trade + Mikko trade + Getting our goalies, Im just left scratching my head at this season and the seasons moving forward. I cant help but feel like this experiment isnt going to work out and its gonna feel like the Grubauer years, or the Georgiev years where we get bounced and goaltending just isnt awesome. Blackwood has been nice so far but if we loose this year with an Series SV% < .850 I might loose my mind, why are we doing all this? for what? Every day I miss Darcy and Frankie more and more.
I’m generally a fan of this trade just for the fact that we got rid of dehaan, dude was a total black hole on defense. Lindgren is having a not so great year and if there’s anywhere he can turn his career around it’s here, a 3rd pairing defensive defenseman who’s good on the PK is exactly what we need. Don’t love giving up a 2nd but he’s a vastly better player than dehaan so you got to give up something
They needed sold defensive d man and they got it. Veteran bottom 6 fwd. They got it. These are smart moves earlier than the deadline. I think Lindgren was much needed. Hopefully he stays healthy and contributes.
i could care less about the points a dman puts up that we bring in ,the only stat i care about is +/- and they better keep that stat at a plus .
I’m so tired of people mentioning Crosby now. It isn’t gonna happen. They’d burn the city to the ground if dubas ever got rid of Sid. I’d love to have him obviously but it is simply not happening.
Avs defensive scheme requires speed and puck handling skill. Lindgren is a net add vs De Haan
I’m cautiously optimistic about this move. Statistically, Lindgren is having a really bad year, but I do think he’s an upgrade over CDH. His role in Colorado is going to be greatly diminished from what they were asking him to do in New York, and I’m glad to see the Avs pick up another Josh Manson type of defenseman with some grit to his game. This move was a little expensive in my opinion, but such is the cost of trading at the deadline.
Shaggy- I agree. We gave up two much in this deal and now we have no additional draft picks for other moves. Straight up trade ok but still don’t see the fit. Would rather have ROR from Nash and defensemen from sharks or guy on waivers from Utah. There was better deals out there I think. Especially what we gave up. Not a fan of the deal.
Trading and hoping shouldn’t be our strategy now if we are trying to win a cup with MAC and Cale.
