Ilya Sorokin gets his first goalie goal as the Islanders beat the lowly looowwwwwly Nashville Predators 7-4 Saturday afternoon. Aaand he then proceded to chrip my boy Igor lmao That and more in today’s NHL hockey video!
Julien Brisebois ruined Stamkos life. He lost his home, his team, now his career. Guys reeling for sure. Hockey is a business sure… But it was a sport that showed it's players respect
Nashville isn't a disappointment, that's exactly what happens to every team that just tries to cram all the star players onto one team that they can. It never works
This is the eighth goalie goal from an own goal where the goalie was last to touch it ( and possibly the first CORRECTION: the second that wasn't on a delayed penalty, Cam Ward got credited on the first such own goal to a goalie so extra shout out toSorokin for that if so ). I believe the number on direct shots is around 12. (EDIT: Confirmed.)
In fact, between the Mike Smith goal (October 19, 2013) and the Pekka Rinne goal (January 9, 2020), the two types were as common as each other (7 apiece), and in the much shorter time span between Martin Brodeur's 3rd goal (March 21, 2013, the last own goal goalie goal until this game, and the only goal of either type scored with the opposing goalie still on the ice, although Dan Ellis was on his way to the bench when Jordan Staal messed up and sent it towards his own net.) and Smith's goal, there were more own goals given to goalies than goalie shots. (For perspective, Brodeur only has one goal off a direct shot, his other two are own goals by his opponents. Only Ron Hextall has sunk two direct shots in his career, keeping up mind that this stat lumps playoffs and regular season goals together because of the sheer rarity of goalscoring goalies, especially before this season.)
One last stat, since I mentioned playoffs: only Brodeur and Hextall have scored in the postseason, both off direct shots. It hasn't been seen in the postseason since Brodeur's first goal on April 17, 1997. However, since this is the first season where more than one goalie scored a goal, and since a 12 year drought of own goal goalie goals was just snapped by Sorokin, could this also be the year some goalie gets one in the playoffs, too?
Hold your head up high guys. Thinking back few years with the oilers we had some years of stinking after drafting McD and Dri. The path is up, keep working hard, it will happen.

flag on the play for that last comment 😆
Nashville i feel bad for them. But Stamkos man. He doesnt sit right in any sweater other than the Bolts. Leaving Tampa backfired for him 🙁
This is so lame, just give own goals for this type of stuff
If ever there was an argument for "own goals" in hockey, a play like this is it.
Watch Igor scores a goal tonight against Nashville.
As a Blackhawks fan being the team that’s the reference point for sucking breaks my heart 😂
HA! When you scroll all the way down on the standings you can’t see the Bruins being mid. So we aren’t THAT bad 😂.
YEEEES HES TALKING ABOUT THE ISLANDERS
(I was at that game.I DID THE T SHIRT TOSS)
This is ridiculous how he said "I'd do it before Igor" I HATE THE NHL 😡
Eck you need to do more hockey videos again😢❤
Most notable goal Stamkos has scored in Nashville.
The Predatores are such a mess…

i saw this live, THE ENERGY WAS UNREAL!!! LETS GO SOROKIN!!!
As a preds fan it this doesn’t sum up our season idk what does
If this doesn't sum up the ENTIRE season for the Predators, I don't know what does.
A Sorokin goal is pretty much the biggest W we'll probably get out of this season for Isles fans

You should make a video about the Simon Edvinsson no call from the stadium series
the petterson stat i heard too was like more goals for sorokin in the last 18 games lol
and yet somehow the Preds beat WPG TWICE this year…
More goals than ep40
Joey Daccord was robbed the same night because legendary giraffe Tyler Myers just HAD to make a good play.
