Jones at $7mil/season for 5 more years doesn't actually seem that bad. In Florida he will play less minutes on the 2nd pairing and his new role will match his reduced salary…
I dont like that we had to give up a first round pick as well.
I don't get it. Pay Montour 7m and you get to keep assets. Is Jones that mucch better than Montour? I don't think so.

Originally I didn't like the trade but I also didn't like the Tkachuk trade and how wrong about that I was…. Ekblad gets injured from time to time. And Chicago retaining so much has really made this a nice trade! Dreiger was real solid for us a few years ago and whilst I know that was then, I think he's still got it in his locker! Actually watching this vid brought me around to the trade more!!!
Bill Zito doing Bill Zito things. Whenever a deal feels like it's almost not good enough for Panthers there are some aspects that makes it work so well. In this one the leverage this deal gives in future negotiations and the fact that they only pay 7 mil for him.

Probably one of the most "square" deals I've seen this year. As a Wild fan, it doesn't really affect me, since I doubt we will see the Panthers in the Cup final anytime soon… so I'm excited to see how it shakes out for the Eastern Conference!

the 2.5 million retained isnt that bad when you think about buyouts, Canucks are paying 4.5 million so that OEL WONT PLAY for them, more than the leafs are paying him to actually play

The only thing Seth Jones really did was eat minutes. I think he’s way overrated. He’s not a number 1 defenseman and he brings the morale down in the locker room when the teams not winning. Lot of turnovers. Hawks win the trade all day long.
I’m sad to see Knight go but we need Jones more now then Knight long term, sell high on Knight. I think Zito did the same with Huberdeau. He made some bad moves before on UFA’s and the retention on the contract makes Jones much more valued in FLA eyes.
