Capitals Eye Trade for Brock Nelson as Ovechkin Pursues Gretzky’s Record Amid Playoff Race

The Washington Capitals are considering a trade for New York Islanders forward Brock Nelson as they near the 2025 NHL Trade Deadline, despite his dip in performance this season. They have a limited salary cap space of $3.65 million and may need to trade players like Sonny Milano or younger prospects to facilitate the deal. Milano has returned to full practice after an injury but lacks a clear timeline for returning to games. Additionally, Alex Ovechkin is 11 goals away from breaking Wayne Gretzky’s all-time goal record, with play-by-play announcer Joe Beninati eager to call these historic milestones. Upcoming Capitals games are set to be nationally broadcasted, with major networks interested in covering Ovechkin’s goals, while the final game against the Pittsburgh Penguins holds significance given their slim playoff chances.

  1. Never realised Brock Nelson has had such a solid NHL career. Having said that do we really want a 33 yo guy? I know he'd be a rental and a good 3C option but c'mon! NYI better bloody retain half his salary.

  2. What's to stop Joe B from making a youtube page and doing watch along's and doing commentary that way. I would happily put the caps game on and listen to Joe B on my phone

  3. I think Nelson is too rich for our blood. Sure he’s the top trade deadline target, and I’d be stoked if we got him, but that just means everyone will be going after him which just drives up his value. There are also teams that need more top 6 help than we do, so they should be willing to cough up more than us. I think we’re more in the realm of guys like Yanni Gourde, Ryan O’Reilly, or Scott Laughton. All 3 would make ideal 3C’s for us. There’s also talk of Montreal trading away Evans and Armia as a pair. Something to look at.

  4. Exciting times with the upcoming deadline …

Sooo … Sonny Milano is back from ”injury” just before deadline 🤔
