O’Reilly certainly earned his nickname, and was such a tough player. Like other lefties who can fight well, it can give their opponents some trouble, especially the first time around. Back then, they didn’t have a lot of footage from other teams, so they don’t find out who’s left handed until they get cracked by one.
Hadn’t seen more than half of these. Really enjoying this series of vids, and this is another good one. I like seeing fight footage from some of the veterans I grew up watching, since they often became important role players later in their careers. This vid had Dennis Potvin in a fight, and I watched one the other day that had Dirk Graham in a spirited fight. Interesting to learn that they really put the hard nose effort in when they were younger, and eventually become some of the players I loved to watch when I really started watching hockey in my teenage years.
March 30, 1974 Young Bruin Forward Terry O'Reilly knows the Flyer goon Dave Schultz will be a problem for the Bruins and the entire league.
The "Hammer" is in the process of redefining the NHL Enforcer, and is in the middle of racking up three straight record setting seasons for PIM.
O'Reilly and the league heavyweight champ the Hammer hook up. O'Reilly executes his OPLAN, launching 21 left handed bombs with no regard for personal safety.
Schultz tries to tie up O'Reilly, but fails. Schultz counters with 12 solid rights, but he is out gunned and overcome by young Terry.
Clear win, Terry O'Reilly against the reigning NHL Heavyweight Champ, Dave "The Hammer" Schultz.

LOVE the channel…but I hope this is ‘Volume 1’ of O’Reilly…he had A LOT more impressive tilts over his career.
But, I am glad that Gillies, Schultz (one of his fights with them, at least) were in there.
The Behn Wilson fight was amazing!
He had more classics those two…along with Holmgren, Bridgeman, and Keith Magnusson, and Chris Nilan
Awesome stuff.
I’m so glad I found this channel! Troy Mallette was underrated I think how about a video on him?
