Do Oilers need a new goalie and if so, who?

Stuart Skinner has had an up-and-down season and currently owns a .898 save percentage, while Calvin Pickard sits at a .896 SV% as the trade deadline approaches. Should the Oilers look to acquire a goaltender and, if so, who? TSN Hockey analyst Cheryl Pounder joins Domino’s That’s Hockey to share her thoughts.

  1. The way the Oilers got to the finals and game 7 was a grueling journey for them.

They're asking for a lot if they think that's going to work or go the same again. Resting on that ego and Laurel of but they did this, is ignoring how it went down.

  2. Huh ? 46 mins ago ? Gibson's injured now AND he said he'll only waive if he's the #1 guy AND Skinner's likely goes the other way in that trade to make that happen so nope , not happening . Oilers will not see a cup again due to goaltending 🤷

  3. Could be that Skinners a project that was mishandled….could be that Schwartz messed him up….could be that Mumford and other weird stuff like that has messed up Team chemistry….could be that the System needs to be improved….could be that the Defense is subpar….could be that the Coach or Asst Coaches is/are underperforming….could be a mental block thats impacting the entire Team….could be that everyones just overreacting ….could be that any of a number of combonations of the above things are in play ….well maybe everyone should just relax and have a cold one then wait till the Playoffs to get all worked up.

  4. Why is nobody talking about the pathetic play of Bouchard costing this team goals?! It always falls on the goalie but when you have a guy on your own team setting up the other team consistently, how are you supposed to feel confident? It's gross that nobody talks about it and the oil don't address this massive problem with their team.

  5. I can’t believe how reporters oversimplify things like casual spectators. Two of those goals were empty netters, and another seven came from brutal defensive mistakes and giveaways. Are we really blaming this disaster on goaltending? Since McDavid arrived, Edmonton has had multiple solid goalies, yet they weren’t close to the Cup until last year. So is goaltending really the issue? If they had Martin Brodeur in net, would they magically fix their problems? Absolutely not. The last two games were garbage hockey, full of turnovers and defensive breakdowns leading to AAA scoring chances. No goalie in the world can consistently bail out a team that plays like that. And yet, some people present this as an expert take? Oh my God. If they bring in a new goalie, will he somehow erase the brutal turnovers and defensive lapses? No chance. Fix the structure, tighten up the defense, and then maybe we can talk about goaltending.

  6. Make a couple trades, pick up Toews and Price…. close eyes and roll them 🎲 🎲 …. better odds than the last couple tender pics 😂😂😂

  7. 0:34 I see it unlikely the Oilers will acquire a new goalie before this coming offseason. That said, last weekend for them was rough via having allowed 13 goals (11 before factoring in empty-netters), with multiple ugly goals Stu Skinner and Cal Pickard allowed, but also plenty of defence having been thrown under the bus.

  8. Skinner stole games in the playoffs last year he’s a big game player he steps up just like binner. And someone please tell me what you need a tandem for when u only play one goalie in the playoffs.
