Brayden Schenn has three years left on his contract. Getting the St Louis Blues to retain any of his contract for 3 years is next to Impossible. I'm sorry a lot of people want to see this but it is an absolute non-starter too old, too much money. Will cost too much.
People think 2.4 is too much to pay for a fourth line center. 6.5 for a third line center is worse.
Brock Nelson is the player they're going to end up trading for.
Be hard to make the money work, but i would LOVE to see these 2 in the Blue & White for the playoffs!
I dont see how Brayden is Feasible without blowing up the Leafs Depth. Theyre not getting double salary retained Blues just offersheeted 2 guys to compete theyre not gunna go retain 3.25M for 3 more seasons. So looking they would have to get a third party to retain 3.25M for three years. That in itself is worth a very high draft pick. Probably close to a 1st or 2nd if theyre lucky…
It makes much more sense to just go for Laughton. Philly will retain 50% no problem. They are in the rebuilding stage and they really dont have any guys to resign next season. except for Foereter but the elevation in cap will take care of that.
Laghton has another year and would only be 1.5M for another year after this. and he has very comparable numbers offensively tp schenn EVen at 3M and nothing retained hes still cheaper then schenn. and he is 3-4 years younger. IMO hes ust an all around better fit for the leafs situation. Only way I say bring in Schenn is if they can move off the Reilly contract and bring is a guy like Parayko as well or something.
I would like then to get a Right shot centre as well Jake Evans would be a real nice fit.
Doubt Reilly would waive but if he did…..
I would love a trade like this althought Philly would not want Reilly maybe it turns into a 3 team trade where Philly retains 50% of reilly and ships him to a contender or something…

Obviously not a complete deal but if a deal could be made starting with those pieces that would be SWEET. I Much rather prefe Sanheim over Reilly and hes couple years younger and controlled. The sanheim contract will age really well as the cap goes up.

St. Louis should be thankful to get rid of a third line center on the tail end of his contact. We have to give away picks to get rid of our contracts.
Unless the Leafs can get a team or 2 to retain a good chunk of Brayden’s salary it doesn’t make sense and that doesn’t make sense….

The starting point of Schenn as a first round pick for his declining production and cap hit isn’t anywhere near accurate. I’d even be hesitant to offer a 1st even if it was 50% retained for the entire duration of his remaining contract. (Which StLouis wouldn’t likely even entertain). That said it’s an easy pass.
