With all the star power, many experts expected to see a barrage of goals between Canada and USA. Yet, in 7 periods of hockey, only 9 goals were scored—proving that even the league’s brightest stars can be silenced by elite defense.
Watch as we break down modern defensive strategies featuring Team USA’s Jaccob Slavin and Team Canada’s Devon Toews.
Topics include rush defense, in-zone defense, and early defensive reads.
If you enjoyed this breakdown, don’t forget to drop a comment, like the video, and share it with someone who’ll appreciate the finer details of hockey.

Toews is the best one by far!
Keeping the stick in the passing lane is the biggest takeaway for me. So many defenseman do not do this and it must drive goalies insane.
Jaccob Slavin is a professor!
This is the sort of stuff that the kids don't wanna learn – they wanna learn top cheddar – but it's this stuff that the pros pay attention to…although even then not enough since Toews and Slavin stand out
It’s easily slavin.
Great work as always.
Slavin and it’s not even close. He plays with a 40 year old and is absolutely carrying him
Esa Lindell
He Slavin away on D
Thanks so much, been waiting for something like this—love it when defensive analysis goes deeper than “watch his chest” lol
The Slavin / Faber pairing is almost impossible to beat
"on this play, Slavin does an excellent job of being 6 foot 3".
Brock Faber. Gotta say his name more. He is that good.
this is the type of content i've been looking for. the vast majority of technical breakdown videos focus on the offense. would love to see more defensive analysis videos.
