What dmen do you think are better than Marcus Pettersson? Provorov isn't available right now. Lindholm was a glorified 3C. This 2025 draft class is weak. Pittsburgh looks great if they get an early pick in 2026. Looks poor if they get a late 1st.
Canucks got fleeced twice. My fellow Canucks fans are delusional and all the nasty crap people have said over the years now makes sense. The booing of a national anthem tops it off. Hockey game isn't a place for political statements knuckleheads.
They didn't pay a 1st for MP.. they paid a mid to late 1st in a bad draft for MP + big bottom 6 winger + Dumping 2 contracts for players that weren't working and cost 4.25m
Canucks fan here. He is a lot better than I thought. Played 26 min's in his first game
But a team that is starving for offense before the JT Miller trade and is much worse off now, it would have been better to use that 1st rounder for a scoring forward. If they wouldn't have delayed so much in making this JT miller trade, even if they got what they got, they probably could have used the first-round pick and gotten Frost from Philadelphia before Calgary traded for him.
it's closer to a high second rounder for a solid defenseman with a skillset that no one wants to sell off right now. Could be worse.
Giving up a first and a prospect only works if they resign him. Didn't know much about DD Petey before he got to Van but he looks to be a good #4 D-man so far, which is better than the 7-8 guys the have slotted into the 3456 positions. DD Petey was a minus 1 on the night but looked like a pretty good upgrade thus far. If you add up the cap space they got with a second then it works out to a late first round pick, but only if they get him signed. Time will tell.
I think you have to look overall, they offloaded Miller, which they had to. Dumped his contract along with Deharnais and Heinen, which frees up around $13 million and they've got in Chytil and O'Connor to provide some drive in offense. Chytil is not a direct replacement for Miller but the Canucks will be hoping he turns into a top player for them and that EP40 gets back to his prime. M Petterson alone is not worth a top 13 pick but to get everything done and settle the team in areas of need, the Canucks did pretty well in a bind. I think you're right, they will have to use the cap to trade in a top forward eventually and talk is Boeser may be traded to free up more cap space. If Boeser goes Vancouver will need two top 4 forwards so that'll be he focus in the near future.
