Dallas Stars rookie defenseman Lian Bichsel was forced to leave Sunday’s game at UBS Arena in the second period after receiving an illegal check to the head by New York Islanders forward Casey Cizikas. After reviewing the play, the referees gave Cizikas a match penalty, ejecting him from the game. Because Stars defenseman Matt Dumba came to Bichsel’s defense by instigating a fight with Cizikas, Dallas had only three minutes of their five-minute major power play. That was plenty of time for Jason Robertson to score two power play goals, leading the Stars to a 4-3 win over the Islanders. Craig Ludwig and Owen Newkirk on the DLLS Stars Post Game Show broke down the incident and how the Stars responded.

Dude, what game are you watching? Casey Cizikas is 5'11 and Liam Bischel is 6'7. It wasn't a hit from behind and show me the hit to the head? I see a shoulder where head jars. Cizikas doesn't leave his feet and it's a playable puck for both players. Casey Cizikas is a 13 year veteran. Come on man…

I hate to say it because I love Bichsel but I don't even think that should have been a penalty. Gotta keep your head up.

I love hockey because its physical… i hate when any sport has players or riders who have ill intent or intent to injure… the puck is at Cizikas feet as he skates by it to shoulder Bischsel in the face! Like, how is that good hockey??? Or good for the or any sport??? Not cool and must be punished, and avoided so players can friggin play. Period
Precedent was just set with the Zegras suspension. This hit is worse imo.
From Dallas, huge Stars fan, hate to say it but Bichsel made a rookie mistake and that shouldn't have even been 2 mins on the islander player. He pretty much ran right into the islanders path, and even put his head down to connect with his shoulder. I've watched it over and over and I honestly can't believe they called that a match penalty.
Hope Bichsel learns from this and is back soon.
Cizikas NEVER LOOKED AT THE PUCK. He was staring at Bichsel the entire way in. It was a flagrant hit to the head, and Cizikas is lucky that a Match was all he got.
You guys are ridiculous you have no clue.
Shouldn’t have even been a penalty. Watch it at full speed. Both players are skating to the puck. Cizikas is merely bracing for impact as a 6’7” player proceeds to hunch downward for some bizarre reason. Completely puts himself in a vulnerable position. Shame on whoever viewed this and upheld the 5 minute major. Awful call which cost a team a game
