Dubas has to talk to some of these guys with no trade clauses, ask them what team they'd like to play for.
Letang would be my plunger
I guess I just don't know what chiodo has done that deserves a chance to stay. He's been the goaltending coach for over 3 seasons and in those 3 seasons no goaltender has been above average. And they all get beat gloveside. To me, he feels very Andy Haines. Obviously, not to the same extreme because haines' philosophy was wrong, but the fact he hasnt gotten a single goaltender to play above average goaltending is detrimental to this team.
I'll be in Tampa to see you guys. Right behind the Pens bench… Sure hope to see my Halifax brother wearing the C.
I don't know about a plunger, but our defense is pretty crappy, trade em all.
What good is a trade going to do? Vultures don't leave any meat. Recent Pen trades have only maintained talent at most. It is unlikely a trade will get us into the playoffs. Why would any other team want to get rid of their talent?
The firing of Jim Rutherford and its consequences have been a disaster for the Pittsburgh Penguins.
Correct me if I'm wrong DK, I'm pretty sure when Dubas came in here, roughly 1.5 years ago, he said he'd do a few things with the Pens; 1, rebuild our farm and I believe he's done that with loads of picks coming 2, rebuild our drafting system and I believe he's completely done that with, what looks like, more to come and 3, give Sid a competitive team for another run and that hasn't been completed. So, obviously, depending on Raks & Karlsson being traded, this would open the door to a ton of possibilities via free agency & trade, correct? Say we receive a 1st for both players that would be now 17 top 2 rounds for the next 3 years or perhaps more talent in our farm or, and as Dubas did say, use for trading to aquire players. With the Marner news of wanting to try FA and his love playing with Sid, Dubas and Marner's TO days, this looks more and more like a chance. I believe in Rantenan more than Marner but an elite winger for Sid would be amazing!!! What's your thoughts on a "build on the fly" like Boston, Washington, and LA has done? We have all it takes to do it, yet set up for when #87 #71 #58 move on. Blessings Dk, Victor 🇨🇦
Goaltending is an incredibly volatile position and I think this is the position most fans criticize unfairly/incorrectly. Even for good goalies, it's a roller coaster ride. Back-up goalies who are consistently good are called starters; they're back-up goalies for a reason and it's generally due to an inability to be consistent for 45+ games a season, so I find it hard to be overly critical of Ned when he's currently punching above his weight class.
In terms of Blomqvist, I wish people would remember Fleury's first two years. Letting up 5, 6 or even 7 goals was no that uncommon. Blomqvist has to be allowed to flounder in order to learn without being banished to NHL obscurity because fans are impatient or not understanding of what this process looks like.
I say these things not to make excuses for the Penguins, but to create some perspective. The current goalie tandem is a decent back-up and a 22 year old rookie with 13 games under his belt. Expectations should be tempered.
Hi DK. If the Defensemen are going to continually let the Tom Wilsons of the world camp out in front of the net it isn't going to matter a whole lot what Andy Chiodo tells the goalies.🙄
"Outshot them 150 to 10 and still lost"… noticing a pattern here
All the reporters are talking about trading Rakel & Karlesson for a pock or another forward. I know are our bottom 3 lines arent great, we need to focus on defense. How USA won Canada in the 1st game over a week ago was defense. The 'D' shut down any offensive push Canada had.
We're getting shots on goal, we need to shut down the other team from scoring before looking for more offense.
You can trade Rakell, but you have to be almost certain of two things:
1. At least two, ideally three WB/S forwards are ready to come up next season and make a Sheary/Rust/Guentzel level impact next season in the top 9. That's a lot to ask but Koivunen, Ponomarev, McGroarty and Broz are on that trajectory.
2. You have to be almost certain you can sign or trade for a winger better than Rakell in the offseason. I'm talking Marner or Rantanen, or at least Ehlers or Boeser. That will cost a lot, but cap and prospects we now have.
Koivunen Crosby Rust
McGroarty Malkin Marner
Bunting Ponomarev Tomasino
Hayes Lizzote Glass
Could really be something.
This might not be popular, but after watching Sid win with Canada, I really want to see him move on. He doesn't deserve this. He has to want this. Personally I want to see his legacy carry 4 Cups into retirement. I'd love to see him play in Colorado or Edmonton. I love the guy, but I don't love watching him play for a team that is doomed for the rest of his career. We HAVE to face reality.
It's still our defense that needs to be better. I understand there are times when the team loses, but it happens to often. More defense. Thank you DK, Great show
D.K I agree with you Rakell will be traded in a big move before the deadline.
I do believe the plunge player will be Karlsson. There has to be a place he wants to go and a team that is willing to make it happen.
As far as Jarry goes, if he completes his contract in WBS I do not have a problem with that at all. There is no market for him and why decrease what we can get because he is added to a trade?
I'd much rather keep Rakell than Gino. Seems we have to get rid of the better of the 2 players.
DK – you think Mike Lange will get a statue @ some point in or outside the arena ?
