Do you see Reinbacher/Hutson pairing in the future possible? I think it's a nice combo.
If they can stay healthy, we will have a great defense. I see Reinbacher as a right shot version of Ghule. Virtually the same size. They are both very good skaters, defense first dmen, that compliment offensive dmen well. They can cover the backend, but also have enough offensive talent not to be offensive black holes where plays go to die. Don't expect anything fancy. Maybe even a tad boring.
But good transition, good first pass. Can play big minutes and provide reliable play and some physicality.
If you wind up with two Ghule-type players that can stay healthy. A superstar like Hutson, and quality guys like WiFi and Engstrom as a 5 and 6th, you've got yourself a fantastic defence. Only big question mark is Mailloux. We all know he has the tools. Big, physical, nasty streak, booming shot, puts up numbers. In many ways, he's exactly what we need to complete our top 4. Question is can he learn to be a reliable dman.
If building a team, I prefer building from the net outwards. Goalies look decent with Fowler coming. D is rounding out, Forwards are partly there and we need to discard non future guys to get younger guys time in NHL. Biggest need is getting a #1 and #2 scoring punch. Role players are on #3 and #4 lines already.
Except defensive ability.
I still see a top 6 in a couple of year like hutson-reinbacher ghule-mailloux xhekaj-carrier i don't kow enought about engstrom

I'm still high on Xhekaj. Love Guhle but he has been hurt each year that he has played for the Habs. He may be one of those players that are hurt regularly (maybe like Dach?) If so, Xhekaj is my guy going forward. I still think he is a Larry Robinson player in the future. Mailloux then gets to do Mailloux things with Xhekaj and Guhle and Reinbacher in the mix with Hudson.
Good information by Sean. Love Reinbacher, i think he is the kind of player that will play a lot of minutes as a Right-handed Defencemen and who will do wonders for the transition game, a must to create offence in the NHL. Mailloux, I am not sure about. I think at the end, i believe he will be a third pairing player. He may move up but if the does, it will be after a few years in the NHL.
Mailloux is growing into that Rt. Side D-man Habs need ….He is just taking a longer than usual time .. remember he missed a lot of development time …with suspensions …COVID …INJURIES …and now he is getting good coaching from Pascal Vincent …so the big picture is starting to show fruit .. in how he can handle his defensive responsibilities in Laval …and by training camp …he should report .. READY TO GO .!!!
