How do the Calgary Flames Tackle their End of Season Goals? Scoring & approaching the trade deadline

The Calgary Flames find themselves in a familiar situation. They’re about to embark on a make or break road trip that sends them into the playoffs or back to draft lottery territory. The Flames are last in the league in even strength scoring. Is Connor Zary’s return enough for them to crawl out of the trenches? Should they make a splash at the deadline or maybe consider sitting out of the Mikko Rantanen sweepstakes?

  1. If the Flames can go 3-3 or slightly better on that 6 game road trip. They should stay in the hunt for that final wild card spot. Vancouver has their own rough 5 game road trip coming up. Yes, it’s on the West Coast. But still tough teams regardless.

  2. Farabee and Frost have not become the immediate stars that some fans may have hoped they could be in Calgary. Their career stats show them to be 40 – 45 point forwards suitable for the 2nd or 3rd lines. I think that that is exactly who they are, and they are unlikely to become much better or worse over the balance of their NHL careers. That said, IMHO, they are much better than Kuzmenko and Pelletier were for Calgary, so even with the Flame's 2025 2nd and 2028 7th round draft picks added, I don't see how anyone can see this trade as anything but a win for Calgary.
