SHOWTIME SAVES THE DAY! | Kane’s OT winner helps Detroit avoid a second late-game collapse

What a wild weekend. The Red Wings were playing well and scoring with ease in both games. The power play was dominating, 5/9 on the weekend. But then, against the Wild and Ducks, things collapsed late in the 3rd. On Saturday they couldn’t avoid disaster, but on Sunday, Patrick Kane scored the OT winner. Raymond, Larkin, Kasper and Cat continue to buzz. #LGRW

  1. We need every point we can get right now because if it comes down to it, our last five or six games are really strong opponents and on the road mostly. We need to be looking good before then.

  2. Kane does win it, no doubt. But not before over committing in the offensive zone, causing a full blown 3 on 2 the other way. They were lucky they didnt lose it because of Kane bad decision.

  3. What a weird set of games. In a vacuum, 3 of 4 points on a weekend back to back against two pretty good teams is great! When you look at how those games actually played out, it’s pretty concerning. Hopefully the team can regroup and play 60 minutes next game instead of about 55. Also, F zegras. Late high hit then sits on the bench repeatedly saying “No way. No way” If there’s no suspension I’ll be stunned.

  4. This has to be as emotionless as I've been after a win in a long time. You can't blow third period two goal leads in consecutive nights, especially to a team like Anaheim. I can't even be happy after the win because I just get flashbacks to losing the tiebreaker on RW last year

  5. The Wings seem to struggle against bad teams like the Ducks and the Sharks recently, I wonder if it’s because they’re playing down to their opponents a bit? Either way they were lucky to walk away with a W, and it was thanks to Kane being so clutch in OT

  6. The goal tending has been very poor for a bit of a stretch now. Talbot and Lyon both playing like Husso.

  7. Yzerman needs to find a trade for decent defenseman before the deadline. A good d-man on the third pair could get you 5+ points in the standings when stuff like this keeps happening.

  8. Center depth is going to be a real concern. Copp seems destined for long term IR, and Ras will be out for a bit. Do we see Danielson called up? He's on a bit of a heater with 4 points in the last 5 games. Really hoping we don't see Kasper moved off the top line, but without callups that probably is what we'll get. Joey V hope you didn't forget how to wing out on the top line! My inner fan is just hoping for 3rd line Soder-Shine

  9. D zone faceoff losses late in the third period, almost cost them tonight. After the first 6 on 5 goal scored against the Wings, there should have been instructions to NOT shoot for the empty net and risk another icing, which is what happened.

  10. Wild are a tough team and Ducks have had our number for years now. Both still professional teams. Don't like blowing two goal leads but 3 of 4 points with more tough teams coming up, take it and get ready for the next game. Need Veleno to step up. Need all to step up since top players carried the team this weekend. 🏒

  11. thank you for the appropriate title. the game recap tweet by i believe Grind Line Podcast was disgusting. "a cherry picking Patrick Kane wins it for Detroit in OT"

fan podcasts should not be rooting against or hating or partisan against their own players, esp when those players are playing great and have done nothing to invite or deserve dislike from the fans.

  12. Comments here and on twitter bashing Kane are by people who are not actually fans of the team and who are completely ignorant of hockey. These are partisan meatballs who hate Kane bc they view him in an antagonistic relationship w the homegrown stars of the team. It's "Kane or Raymond, Kane or Larkin, Kane or Seider" in their minds, and by attacking him they think they are fighting on behalf of their homegrown heroes.

Kane under Todd McLellan has been one of if not the best players on the entire team. At 5v5 he has the best analytics of any forward after the top line, and is gaining on Marco Kasper in the possession analytics. All situations, he has simply been – incredible, maybe the team's best player under McLellan. The team leads 30-11 when he is on the ice (best gf% on the team) and he is right up there w Larkin and Raymond in all the analytics, and ahead of them in some, 1st in some. He is 2nd in all situations corsi. At home under McLellan, this is even more pronounced – he leads the team in literally everything analytically at home under McLellan. The team leads 19-5 at home since Christmas when Kane is on the ice.

Any fan calling him a liability, criticizing his defense, saying he stinks 5v5, whatever nonsense, is just – not a fan. Either lying or very ignorant. Kane has been fantastic. Oh, and the team is 7-3 in overtime the last 2 years when Kane is on the ice for the deciding goal in OT. What a liability he is. 13 GWG the last 2 years, next best guys have 7 ; in 30-40 more games. Not even counting the shootout winners.

  13. This team needs to come up with a scheme for being a man down. Be it 6-5, 5-4, or 4-3. They can't get the puck, and bingo it's in their net.

  14. They hit the post 2-3 times yesterday and should’ve shot the puck instead of trying to make a perfect pass a number of times in close to the goalie. Shoot the puck!

  15. I was extremely disappointed in the whole thing around Ras because no one stood up for him. Like, cool, Chiarot did Chiarot things like five minutes later or whatever, but the team needs to do these things in the moment. Send the message immediately. The Ducks learned in that moment that they can just walk all over us, and that I think nearly lost us the game. Flashbacks of 2019, 2020, 2021 stuff right there.

  16. The constant need to get rid of the puck as soon as it touches thier sticks results in the play coming right back thier way and falling into our d zone instead of puck possession and pushing the attack.

  17. The NHL doesn't take head injuries seriously. With four officials on the ice and none of them saw a thing. However , that does mean the hit wasn't part of the ongoing play which made it an obvious targeted head hit.
This should draw a league review and a suspension or it's just a joke.

  18. I think one of the biggest difference makers in the weekend is the defense when down a man, gave up goals on the PK, a delayed penalty and 3 empty net goals in 2 games

  19. The Wings can beat or lose to any team in the league on any given day LO. L. They never surprise me either way

  20. We were a few inches away from having a convo abt kane coming in late behind the D, lucky they didnt score there
