  1. I watch JD everyday and he really helps keep me up to date with all things sharks especially as I'm so far away in sunny England. Thanks JD keep up the good work

  2. Hey Brodie!
Another great conversation with JD!!! Man you are really good at these. I confess (apologies JD) but, I have trouble watching his show. JD's knowledge is next level but, it just doesn't grab me. This conversation with you was awesome. It really plays to JD's strengths which is his remarkable knowledge about all things Sharks.

There is one thing I would add to this fun conversation Brodie and that is how much I enjoy the vast array of draft picks Mike Grier has accumulated and our scouts have identified specifically and now our player development team are working to develop wherever those prospects are in our pipeline. Whether its in Europe, Russia, Major Junior or the US. I like to characterize these late round picks value as "darts at a dartboard." The more picks you accumulate regardless of what round they picks give us another shot at hitting a bulls eye. If you throw enough darts eventually you will hit a bullseye.

Its VERY hard for anyone to look at an athlete and predict with much accuracy what kind of player they will become. We are talking about 17-18 year olds! From my perspective given how difficult it is to predict young players trajectory and given the history in sports writ large of boom and bust players who were highly regarded and failed or were not regarded much if at all and turned out to be superstars those 3-7 round picks are what make a franchise.

Who is going to be the next Nabokov, Pavelski, Justin Braun and on and on. You guys touched on the vital nature of role players every successful franchise has to have. We aren't even talking much if at all about this large and growing pool of prospects who most will probably never see the NHL but, some will rise to the challenge and realize a path that turns them into beloved Sharks who fulfill a very valuable role in bringing a championship to San Jose. Guys who always seem to show up when the lights are brightest and have incredible moments to win a key playoff game or clinch a play off series like Jaime Baker, BarkleyGoodrow and the SF Giants Travis Ishikawa with his series clinching and game winning walk off home run one year not too long ago en route to the Giants last World Series championship.

I get excited when I think about this growing number of players we barely know if we know them at all. Right now they are largely faceless but, I keep my eye on them for the day when a few of them rise from the depths like our fearsome mascot to strike hard and make their presence known.

Love it Brodie keep it up man.
