Why is Jones requesting a trade? He's overpaid and running a power play. Most competitive teams he'd join would have him as a 2nd line D at best

If Crosby said something like this, no one would blame him. But he's an older, overpaid player who hasn't been playing up to his contract and he thinks he too good for Chicago and their rebuild. I don't think any contender is taking on that contract, even if they could afford the cap hit. He was a top pairing defenseman in Nashville, but he wanted more money, so he signed with a team he knew was going through a rebuild and now he thinks he can demand a trade. To where? Even if you could convince a contender to take him, what's the cap retention look like? And what's coming back? A bag of pucks? Again, he was a very good player in Nashville, but since signing in Chicago, he's accrued about as much trade value as Elias Pettersson and his cap hit isn't a whole lot lower. He's also in his 30s, so good luck with that. You might convince a team to take on EP40 with no retention for next to nothing in a trade, maybe. You're just not getting anything at all of value in return. Jones has almost negative value at his age, with his decline and on that contract.
