Boston Bruins on the Trade Block

Boston Bruins on the Trade Block

The trade deadline is fast approaching, and the BostonBruinss find themselves in unfamiliar territory.

The Boston Bruins look to be sellers, and players like Brandon Carlo, Morgan Geekie, and Trent Frederic are at the top of some team’s lists.

Brand Marchand isn’t being traded, and I break down why.

  1. I really am not understanding some of the Rangers rumors. I get teams interested in Big Guys, but, neither of these two play BIG. I do like Geekie's future, but, I also like the prospect of Prospects! Trade Carlo? I'd want to see some decent return. We need someone on PK, and someone to eat minutes on the Blueline.
I hate to say it, but, maybe it's time to blow things up. That means giving up some bigger core pieces. I doubt they do… more likely a tiny retool.

  2. Issue with coaching & Brazeau. He needs more ice time as a big man playing forward. As his ice decreased his impact has lessended whereas I believe he would get back on track if on the ice more.

  3. find a third team as a broker as you see league wide the last several years. i would be careful about Peeke he has had a solid season. Peeke has done well playing extra minutes. just about everyone on this rest is in the red as far as plus minus.

  4. I agree with basically all you said. Under no circumstances should they be buyers this year. I'd be OK with letting all the guys go you mentioned (Freddie, Braz, Carlo, Geekie, Peeke, Koepke). Boston has had a hell of a run over the last decade plus, and that window has closed. It'd be foolish to try and prop it open as long as possible. Just face facts that your farm system sucks, your team is old and slow, and has some really bad contracts on the books. Don't make it worse by trying to sneak into the playoffs for one more season. And you don't want them to be like Buffalo, who muddles around the middle of the pack (most years) for years where you don't make the playoffs, but win enough games to not get a bonafide A+ prospect. Boston can't afford to get stuck in mediocrity and draft somewhere from 12-14 for years at a time. Realize the team needs a reboot, move on from players; if you really suck next year and get a top 5 pick; thats fine too.

  5. Jeremy Jacobs will never allow the organization to do a full rebuild, even though it might be helpful with really only Pasta and Sway off limits. I'd also hate to see Carlo traded, but he certainly would bring back some value. The team needs a 1C and another skilled forward with some goals in his stick.

  6. Geekie struggled early on and then they punished him by throwing him on the Pastrnak line. No doubt he is scoring now.
Brazeau was going along fine and they rewarded him with a spot on the 4th line.
Our specialty teams are abysmal and the fix is to just keep doing the same things over and over and over. Same lines, same tactics.
Our best trade deadline move would be to get some coaches who can fix our special teams before we start golfing early.
Trade Fredrick…sure why not..been useless all year..practically invisible most nights.
Carlo…as a team we are -25 in goal differential…makes perfect sense to move a defenseman thats +3
Zadorov…sure lets continue to verbally lynch the guy. he's only a +16 this year so far. He has to go as its clearly all his fault.
Lohrie..I throw him in here cause of his horrible + – and we may as well throw away a potential future All Star during this joke of a season.
Fire Neely, Fire Sweeney, replace Sacco
Except for the video guys and Essensa….replace the rest. People have to be held accountable.

  7. I agree with almost all the rumored names. I wouldn’t trade Marchy I feel he should end his career hear. Also I don’t understand the Carlo haters I know he’s not having a good year but he’s the rock back there not an expensive contract and who is ready to take over for him nobody. I keep Carlo.

  8. Stinks they will likely not get anywhere close to full value on most of these players but I agree with pretty much everything you’re saying.

  9. Most likely the players you mentioned. So it's nothing earth shattering. Hopefully our GM does something.
Anyone except Pastrnak should be available as far as i am concerned. We need a rebuild.

  10. Some of these “trades” could happen. But, I believe that a straight up trade might not happen, some may need a 3 or 4 way team trade.

  11. Also, to your point, it does feel kind of bizarre to be a seller. I’m not used to this as a fan. Usually, we are in this mindset of “OK we might have to give up something significant, but we’re in the mix for every star player in the rumor mill” lol. This time it feels like ripping a Band-Aid off. Almost like I should close my eyes, open them after the deadline passes and see what’s left 😅. Just hard to feel good about the situation when it feels like we will be selling low on most of these assets…but as you point out, not much else the team can do or else they’re just putting themselves in an even worse situation moving forward

  12. Bruins have signed themselves into a bad situation.. no one to really dump. Maybe hope a turnaround next year like Winnipeg.. I doubt it though.. first thought for me is coaching is wrong for this group..

  13. They gotta pray for a Washington Capitals type turn around next season but unfortunately it’s hard to trust management to do that when they’ve had cap space numerous times in the past, including last offseason and never really did anything with it

  14. Frederic and Carlo i can see but what can you actually get for them? ROI is critical even if you are a seller. Geekie is playing well but why give that up for a potential unknown entity?
Using Marchand as a talking point does not always work in the sellers favor. as seen by Neely's 64 million reasons. still TBD, Swayman is improving so I will stop on that .
Bring up the 3 kids from Providence and create some healthy internal competition. Leave Brazeau and work with him like they do with Beecher, they need the size, Upper Management does not seem to be forward thinkers, lets keep the kids in our own Backyard (hockey East) hasnt worked so well to not change it.

  15. First thing first, Sweeney needs to be let go right into the garbage can. With him still as GM, it doesn't matter who the B's trade or pick up. Maybe we can pick up Lucic's wife.

  16. ….what you said. I always had high hopes for Brazeau but what will be will be. If wishes were horses though, I would wish we could get Lindholm out of our stable.

  17. McAvoy has a no trade list
But he’s biggest sell chip after 4 Nations performance. Gotta get out of that contract/term

  18. If I was a contending team, I’d want Koepke on my bottom 6. Idk why, but I like him and think he has potential to be better

  19. Look at how Tampa made the right move to snub Stamkos to go out and sign Jake Guentzal so he can play with Nikita Kucherov, Bruins management needs to do an equivalent move. Not sure if that actually means trading Marchand, but Pasta NEEDS to be playing on a line with actual top 6 talent. Just because he can elevate both Zacha and Geekie doesn’t mean they are the perfect linemates.

We need another top 6 forward who can carry the offense when Pasta isn’t. We have an abundance of “this guy is a 3rd/4th liner on a Cup winning team” type of guys. Sell as much of them as possible and lets call up the kids.

I’d much rather this team sell off pieces for picks+prospects and get to watch Lysell and Merkulov play in our top 9 alongside Pasta, Poitras, and Marchand (if not traded)

  20. I don’t mind the roster shrinking—it’s a necessary course correction. The team is overloaded with bottom six guys and a few underwhelming players; there’s no reason to be weighed down by money tied up in average talent we could move. Especially with Lindholm and Zadorov on the books for the next few years, it makes sense to free up the space we can to turn this team back into a convincing contender.

  21. Yeah, they could trade to try and save the season, but a better idea might be this. Maybe if this current group dug its head out of its ass and started taking each game personally, it would be more meaningful. With the added bonus of not having to go through the teething process of learning to click with unfamiliar players. They don’t have that kind of time. And for any player they do decide to send packing, they might close with ‘..Thanks for letting us down and embarrassing the organization. See ya’ NEVER.
