The Most Unlikely Performance the NHL has Ever Seen…

In over 106 years of NHL hockey, only 13 players have recorded eight or more points in a single game. And in this century? Only one player has pulled it off. Was it Sidney Crosby, the undisputed face of hockey throughout the 2010s?
No, Sid couldn’t quite reach that elusive milestone. His best efforts? Two six-point games: one against the Flyers in 2006 and another against the Islanders in 2010. Surely, then, it must be Connor McDavid, the generational talent of today? Remarkably, no. McDavid’s top single-game performances include two six-point outings against the Avalanche and Red Wings.
And what about Alex Ovechkin, the greatest goal scorer of all time? Surprisingly, his best single-game tally is five points, a feat he has achieved four times. If not them, perhaps legends of the early 2000s like Jaromir Jagr or Daniel Alfredsson? Both came close, each managing seven-point games during their illustrious careers, but never eight. Could it have been Nick Schmaltz didn’t he have a crazy game not too long ago? Well no,He lit the lamp with a seven-point game not too long ago in 2022 vs the sens.
To find the answer, we travel back to February 2, 2012—a chilly Thursday night in Edmonton. The Oilers were hosting the Chicago Blackhawks, a team in the midst of building a modern-day dynasty. But the hero of this story wouldn’t come from the Blackhawks. No, the spotlight would fall on a player few would have ever predicted.
His name? Sam Gagner. #samgagner #edmontonoilers #hockey #nhl #oilers #nhlhistory #icehockey

  1. I'm surprised you mentioned Ovi. He has so few assists, and so few points his name would never have crossed my mind. I also know who the answer was anyway.

  2. Great vid! But what standarts are put on? We are talking about a so called undersized F, that had played 1000 games and scored over 500 pts. in the NHL.
That`s a great career, actually awesome. If you ask any kid out there, 1000 games, 500 points, they would all take it.

  3. He's on a PTO with the red wings rn ?
man, he deserves to be still in the league. After his last surgery, he looked well on the oilers.
    Wish him very well.

  4. I vividly remmeber being so fed up with the Oilers I almost turned off the game after the first period. So glad I didn't. This game turned Sammy into a legend in Edmonton where he is still a favorite.

  5. Ovechkin will never be the greatest goal scorer. Gretzky didn't need to play the game for 63 years to put his numbers up.

  6. So get this. Sam Gagner didn't register a point in the first period against the Blackhawks that night. Scoring 3 points in the second and 5 in the third. Two nights later against the Wings, he put up 3 points in the first period. Bringing his total to 11 points in a 3 period span! Unreal.

  7. I hope that Sammy signs a 1-game contract with the Oil when he decides to hang up the boots so that he can retire as an Oiler.

  8. 2007 wasn't exactly a great draft classes. Not terrible, not bad, but not great.

Yes, it had P. Kane as a clear #1, but the next 5 guys didn't make an All-Star game or team. #2 JVR is respectable, #3 Kyle Turris played nearly 800 games, #4 Hickey played 450 games, and #5 Alzner played almost 700. That said, Logan Coture, Ryan McDonagh, K. Shattenkirk, Pacioretty, D. Perron, PK Subban, Wayne Simmonds, and Jamie Benn did also come out of that class. PK and Wayne were 2nd round, and Jamie was a #129 diamond in the rough.

I wouldn't say Gagne's results were particularly bad for a #6 pick. If they did a redraft based on current knowledge, he'd likely end up between #15 and #25. But you expect a few drop-downs and solid pick-ups.

  9. I saw what you did there with Taylor Halls photo, thats truly hilarious. I almost lost a mouthful of coffee. Ah ha ha ha!

  10. Sam Gagner was on the Columbus Blue Jackets for their 16 game win streak (2016-2017) and was also on Edmonton for their 16 game win streak (2023-2024) both were 1 game away from tying the all time win streak record of 17 by the Penguins in 92. the fact that in French he is literally Mr. Earn/Win is just the cherry on top.

  11. My wife and I were in attendance that night thanks to nobody else at my work wanting the tickets to watch the oil get destroyed on a weeknight. That place was electric! Nobody sitting down after the 10 min mark of the 3rd. Good memories!

  12. Alex Ovechkin is NOT the greatest goal scorer of all-time, moron…..Wayne Gretzky is. If you are gonna post video's at least try to get your facts straight !!!

  13. as a Canadian who is in to actual hip hop thank you Kendrick for cleansing that stain on our community we have incredible artists that actually rap real shit . PROBABLY A MINOR!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
