I think a lot of people saw the Liljegren trade coming since the preseason.
yeah, great trade for the Leafs – two much needed draft picks and a decent right handed journeyman d-man that can plug a hole in a pinch that can actually play defense!
From our perspective I think it's a good trade for both sides. Benning playing on a bad team really exposed where his game is right now. He is still just coming back from a pretty serious injury last year and was making a lot of mistakes on an admittedly bad Sharks team. It would be much easier to hide him on a 3rd pairing playing for a team like Toronto until he rounds back into form. For us, we can afford to take a flyer on a youngish d-man that at one point had real potential. It really only cost one of the two 3rd rounders we have in the next draft, plus a sixth thrown in. If Liljegren comes in and plays even slightly better than Benning had (not to hard), then at least we've got another year to look at what we've got in him. If he flourishes at all then we have the choice to keep or deal him in the future. Like I said, good for both sides.
Great coverage gentleman
Ok guys lets not over blow this trade, It's good that they got a couple of picks for TL, but there's a good chance that Benning gets waived in the coming weeks. TL with more ice time may well flourish in SJ and I hope he does.
This mark guy probably dresses as a chef in his spare time
Anddd yet again the Leafs trade a great dman for a lesser player and picks.. meanwhile within 3 years he will win a cup and
doesnt make sense for a rebuilding sharks team trading 2 draft picks
